At Pala Zion, a groundbreaking residential project, four esteemed architectural studios – Studio Andrew Trotter, GOMA, Morq, and Taller Hector Barroso – collaborate to build a distinctive neighborhood nestled near the majestic Utah landscape of Zion National Park. This architectural ensemble consists of 22 unique private homes, each with its own design, spanning from approximately 3,000 to 5,000 square feet on a challenging 35-acre terrain.
At Pala Zion, you’ll find a perfect setting for contemplation, detachment, and connection with like-minded individuals. Every residence here will enjoy privileged access to the upcoming facilities and amenities of the Paréa Landscape Hotel, skillfully designed by Studio Andrew Trotter. This hotel in the making boasts dining establishments, a wellness center, a spa, and multiple areas for recreational activities.
These houses harmoniously merge with their natural surroundings boast an effortless blend of indoor and outdoor living areas, enclosed personal patios, equipped kitchens, swimming pools, compact spas complete with saunas and bathing facilities, along with open-sky sunrooms that maximize sunlight and local stone materials.
Studio Andrew Trotter is known for their emphasis on simplicity and custom designs tailored to specific locations. They skillfully adjusted the blueprints of Pala Zion to match the seasonal weather shifts in Kolob Canyons. The studio cleverly added overhangs and positioned buildings so that they block summer sunlight from entering the interiors, maintaining a cool environment, while ensuring warmth and comfort during winter.
Architectural firm GOMA Workshop, based in Mexico, boasts over a decade of expertise and is renowned for its creative approach to architectural and construction projects. For the Pala Zion project, they designed six houses with panoramic views and one innovative corner solution, focusing on a robust bond with the surrounding natural environment. These houses include a floating roof that sits 1.8 meters above ground level, permitting sunlight during winter while offering shade in summer months. The design is an amalgamation of cultural and architectural influences, such as Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Sufjan Stevens, Louis Kahn, Luis Barragán, Álvaro Siza, pre-Hispanic architecture, and vernacular styles.
Known for designing structures that blend harmoniously with the surrounding natural environment, the Mexico-based architecture firm, Taller Hector Barroso, constructs a dwelling that exudes a tranquil “forest retreat” ambiance for the Pala Zion project. By emphasizing the organic integration of buildings within their surroundings, the studio often employs local resources like vegetation, soil type, and geographical elements to devise innovative architectural concepts. For the Pala Zion project, the studio’s design priorities include orientation, cross-ventilation, and material choice to guarantee a comfortable living space all year round. The team draws inspiration for this project from Tanizaki’s book, “In Praise of Shadows” and Andrei Tarkovsky’s films.
Regarding the architectural firm MORQ from Italy, their design philosophy aims to strengthen the relationship between residents and the stunning Utah environment. This is achieved by highlighting views, creating a harmonious blend with the terrain, providing an inviting yet spacious ambiance, and achieving a balance between traditional architectural elements and designs tailored to the unique site.
At Pala Zion, you’ll find properties that demonstrate a dedication to creative architecture and blending seamlessly with the stunning desert environment. This location is perfectly situated, approximately a 2-hour journey from Las Vegas and around 6.5 hours from Los Angeles by car. Property owners have the advantage of renting out their homes, backed by professional management services provided by the hotel.
