As a seasoned gamer with a keen eye for design, I must say that the Palmes Center Court in Copenhagen has left me utterly captivated. Having traversed countless digital landscapes, I can attest to the fact that this physical space successfully blends the industrial grit of a virtual world with the warmth and beauty of nature, much like the perfect balance between strategy and action in my favorite games.
Danish fashion label Palmes has recently revealed a fresh location in the bustling Carlsberg Byen district of Copenhagen. Known as Palmes Center Court, this multi-purpose venue encompasses 135 square meters, featuring an exhibition area, studio, and serving as the flagship store for the brand.
In their previous partnership with Frederik Gustav, Palmes asked for their artistic expertise once more, this time to design a new blended area called the Palmes Center Court. This new space harmoniously complements its surrounding industrial and rough atmosphere, infused with a warmer ambiance. The structural tone is set by the exposed concrete structure and steel elements, giving off a cool, robust vibe, while the rich tones of Okoume wood provide a harmonious contrast, suggesting the presence of nature throughout the area.
The design utilizes polycarbonate sheets that have been manually sanded and fitted into Okoume wooden frames, which enable sunlight to stream from floor-to-ceiling windows into various parts of the room, thereby amplifying its spaciousness and gracefully transmitting light throughout Palm’s Center Court.
Transformed into both residence and recreational hub for the Palmes Tennis Society, this space seamlessly blends tennis motifs with a whimsical flair, striking a harmonious balance between court influences and an edgy industrial ambiance. Hidden tributes to the realm of tennis are sprinkled throughout the retail area, showcasing a curved wall evocative of tennis club hitting walls and showcases filled with tennis court clay and a miniature bonsai tree. The office space is adorned with Muuto’s Linear System Series work furnishings and bespoke shelving by Frederik Gustav. Furthermore, a unique artwork by Danish artist Frederik Nystrup-Larsen graces the shop area.
Take a look around the space in the gallery above.
