Panchayat: Did you know Jitendra Kumar’s show set in Phulera village was actually filmed in THIS state?

The critically praised web show Panchayat, created by TVF and streaming on Amazon Prime Video, has captured viewers’ affections with its genuine portrayal of rural India. Though the plot takes place in the fictional town of Phulera in Uttar Pradesh, it is intriguing to note that the series was actually shot in a village situated in Madhya Pradesh.

Although the storyline for “Panchayat” is based in Uttar Pradesh, it was actually shot in Mahodiya village of Sehore district, Madhya Pradesh. Intriguingly, real-life locations like the Panchayat office and the well-known water tank named “Rinki Ki Tanki” can be spotted on Google Maps, enhancing the show’s portrayal of rural life by adding an extra layer of authenticity.

As an unapologetic enthusiast, I’d say the narrative unfolds around me, Abhishek Tripathi – a newly-minted engineer, yearning for a more promising career opportunity. However, fate had other plans, and I found myself unwillingly stepping into the role of Panchayat secretary.

In the role of Abhishek, Jitendra Kumar finds it tough to adjust to the straightforward ways and hurdles of rural living as he prepares for his MBA entrance exams. But little by little, he develops heartfelt bonds with the villagers, making Phulera seem like a familiar place.

In the year 2020, the initial series presented audiences with a fresh look at Abhishek’s existence, showcasing his comedic trials in dealing with small-town administration and local politics.

In 2022, Season 2 continued the story, focusing on Abhishek’s connections with the villagers, particularly his deepening relationship with Rinki, portrayed by Sanvikaa who is Pradhan’s daughter. The most recent season, premiered in 2025, introduced more complex issues for Abhishek to handle and delved into the changing relationships within the village, leaving fans excited for future episodes.

In this production, an exceptional group of actors brings vividness to the delightful personalities on display. Raghubir Yadav assumes the role of Brij Bhushan Dubey, the village headman, while Neena Gupta embodies Manju Devi, the elected Pradhan.

As an over-the-top fan, I can’t help but rave about Chandan Roy’s extraordinary portrayal of Vikas, Abhishek’s sharp and steadfast assistant. Faisal Malik, on the other hand, leaves me spellbound with his spot-on performance as Prahlad, the trustworthy Deputy Pradhan. Sanvikaa’s enchanting interpretation of Rinki has struck a chord with viewers, infusing the narrative with warmth and allure. Rumor has it that the series is gearing up for a fourth season, with filming already in full swing!
