Pankaj Tripathi recalls having no vanity van during Gangs of Wasseypur's shoot; says 'bahar kursi lagake baithte the'

As a dedicated follower of Indian cinema, I have had the pleasure of witnessing the remarkable journey of Pankaj Tripathi in Bollywood. His career took off when he was cast in Anurag Kashyap’s critically acclaimed two-part crime drama, Gangs of Wasseypur.

Pankaj Tripathi, set to appear in Amar Kaushik’s upcoming movie Stree 2, has been working in Bollywood for over a decade. He rose to fame following his roles in Anurag Kashyap’s crime drama series, Gangs of Wasseypur.

Recently, the actor from Mirzapur looked back at the past when he shared memories of filming for “GOW” (Gangs of Wasseypur) with us.

Pankaj Tripathi shares what being on the Gangs of Wasseypur set was like

In an interview with News18 Showsha, Pankaj Tripathi discussed his cold weather filming experience for “Gangs of Wasseypur” in the Uttar Pradesh region recently.

Tripathi reminded himself that, unlike other film stars with theater origins, he didn’t have a trailer on set during productions. He expressed that he can’t find a similar environment as the one experienced in “GOW” (presumably referring to a specific production) these days.

GOW star cast would sit on chairs outside, recalls Pankaj Tripathi

Pankaj Tripathi described the ambiance of other film sets as distinctly different from that of “Gangs of Wasseypur,” explaining that nowadays, actors often pass their time between takes by retreating to their trailers instead.

During the production of “Gangs of Wasseypur,” he recalled with nostalgia that things weren’t as they are now. Instead of using vanity vans, we simply sat on chairs placed outside and engaged in lengthy conversations.

When Pankaj Tripathi replaced Pankaj Jha in Gangs of Wasseypur

I was eagerly waiting for my chance to join the cast of “Gangs of Wasseypur,” specifically for the role of Sultan Qureshi, enemy’s nephew of Sardar Khan. The offer initially went to actor Pankaj Jha, but sadly, he couldn’t make it due to scheduling conflicts before we began shooting. In the end, I, Pankaj Tripathi, was fortunate enough to step into those shoes and bring this intriguing character to life under Anurag Kashyap’s skilled direction.

Previously, Kashyap revealed that Tripathi was chosen over Jha due to financial constraints and an urgent need to proceed with the project.

After the Panchayat actor made a subtle criticism of Kashyap and Tripathi regarding the Gangs of Wasseypur controversy, he reportedly labeled the director as “lacking courage” and criticized the Mirzapur actor for “exaggerating hardship.”

All about Gangs of Wasseypur

The gripping crime saga, “Gangs of Wasseypur,” focuses on the criminal underworld connected to the coal industry in Dhanbad. The narrative unfolds over a span of 68 years, beginning in 1941 and continuing until 2009.

In the two-part film, Manoj Bajpayee, Richa Chadha, Jaideep Ahlawat, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Huma Qureshi, Vineet Kumar Singh, Reema Sen, Zeishan Qadri, Piyush Mishra, Vipin Sharma, and Pankaj Tripathi were among the numerous talented actors who graced the screen. Additionally, Rajkummar Rao and a few others contributed to the impressive star-studded cast.

The initial installment, “Gangs of Wasseypur,” premiered in June 2012, while its sequel, “Gangs of Wasseypur 2,” followed in August of the same year and became available for public viewing.

It is regarded as one of the greatest film series of all time.

As an obsessed fan, I can’t contain my excitement as I prepare myself for the upcoming release of Stree 2! Pankaj Tripathi is getting ready to grace our screens once again with this highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 horror-comedy hit, Stree. This time around, we have Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor taking on the lead roles, promising a thrilling and hilarious experience. Mark your calendars, folks! Stree 2 is set to make its grand entrance on August 15, proudly waving the Independence Day flag high.

I’m excited to share that, just like Anurag Basu’s Metro…In Dino is part of Tripathi’s upcoming projects. This film serves as a sequel to Basu’s 2007 creation, Life…in a Metro.

Metro…In Dino will hit the screens on September 13 this year.
