Paolo Sorrentino’s ‘La Grazia’ Set to Open Venice Film Festival

This year’s Venice Film Festival will open with Paolo Sorrentino‘s La Grazia.

On August 27, the opening night film titled “Grace” (originally known as such in English) will make its world debut at the Venice Film Festival, competing alongside other films. The movie is a collaboration between the Academy Award-winning director and actor Toni Servillo. Although specifics about the storyline are yet to be disclosed, Anna Ferzetti, who starred in “Diamonds”, is also part of the cast.

Alberto Barbera, the festival director, expressed great joy as he announced that the 82nd Venice International Film Festival will kick off with a new and eagerly awaited movie by Paolo Sorrentino.

It’s fascinating to remember that a highly respected and influential Italian filmmaker premiered his debut work, ‘One Man Up’, at the Venice Biennale in 2001 during my tenure as artistic director. This was one of the early highlights of my career.

He went on to say: “Over time, our bond with the Venice Film Festival strengthened. We premiered the first seasons of ‘The Young Pope’ (seasons one and two) outside of competition, and most notably, ‘The Hand of God,’ which in 2021, was awarded the Silver Lion-Grand Jury Prize.

As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but express my anticipation as Paolo Sorrentino makes his comeback to competition. His latest work promises to etch an indelible impression with its remarkable originality and striking resonance with our current times. The fortunate attendees of the Venice Film Festival are in for a treat, as they’ll get to experience this masterpiece on opening night.

The movie “Grace,” helmed by Paolo Sorrentino, is a production of Fremantle, spearheaded by The Apartment (a Fremantle company), Number 10, and PiperFilm. In Italy, it will be distributed by PiperFilm.
