Each year in February, as the cost of watches goes up, Patek Philippe typically stops producing several items from their current collection to make room for fresh innovations before the Watches & Wonders event.
Among Patek Philippe’s most legendary, admired, and sought-after timepiece models, the Nautilus stands out. It’s not surprising that any modifications to this line would generate excitement within the watch enthusiast community. Recently, the renowned Swiss Maison has discontinued several Nautilus versions: the Ref. 5712/1A-001, Ref. 5719/10G-010, Ref. 7118/1A-010, and its variant 7118-1200A-010.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but reflect on my affection for the Nautilus Moonphase Ref. 5712/1A-001, a masterpiece introduced in 2006 to mark the 40th anniversary of this iconic watch design. Despite its discontinuation, it remains one of the longest-lasting versions in its class. However, its rule wasn’t without its challenges. Intriguingly, whispers of its potential removal from the market surfaced in 2021, sparking a surge in prices and desire for this timepiece on the pre-owned market.
The discontinuation of the Nautilus Moonphase Ref. 5712/1A-001 is deeply regrettable for enthusiasts, and it’s important to note that this decision from Patek Philippe also impacts other prominent collections: Aquanaut, Calatrava, Grand Complication, and Split-Seconds Chronograph. The affected models include the Aquanaut Ref. 5167/1A-001 with a steel band, the Calatrava Travel Time Ref. 5524G in white gold (42mm) with a blue dial, the gold Grand Complication Ref. 5208R-01, and the Split-Seconds Chronograph Ref. 5370P-011, which boasts a Grande Feu enamel blue dial.
