As a longtime fan of Patricia Arquette‘s captivating performances and her knack for immersing herself into complex characters, I’m absolutely thrilled about her latest role in the upcoming Hulu series based on the Murdaugh family murders. With her impressive track record, from “True Romance” to “The Act,” Arquette has proven time and again that she can bring a story to life with her nuanced portrayals.
Patricia Arquette will star in an upcoming Hulu series focusing on the intriguing Murdaugh family murders. This influential family, prominent in South Carolina’s Lowcountry region, has held political power for generations. They have been entangled in numerous crimes that have garnered attention through documentaries and the “True Sunlight” podcast (formerly known as the “Murdaugh Murders Podcast”), which gained widespread acclaim upon its 2021 release.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming series will delve deep into the captivating saga of the Murdaugh family, starring Patricia Arquette. This tale, which seems more like fiction than reality, is inspired by countless hours of investigative reporting by Mandy Matney – a renowned journalist and creator of the widely popular ‘Murdaugh Murders Podcast’. Furthermore, it benefits from exclusive insights gained over years of following this intriguing case, offering an insider’s perspective.
In a recent trial, Alex Murdaugh, once a well-known lawyer from South Carolina, was found guilty of murdering his wife, Maggie Murdaugh, and their son, Paul. He is now serving two life sentences without the chance of parole. Over several decades, Alex has been involved in numerous other criminal activities such as fraud, embezzlement, and drug offenses. On many occasions, he misused his power and privileges in these illegal acts.
The production of this series, originally conceived in 2022, has been accelerated by Rosanna Arquette’s involvement. It is now officially greenlit for broadcast. As of now, the show remains without a title. Michael D. Fuller and Erin Lee Carr are joint creators of the series, and they also hold executive producer roles. Additionally, Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund, under their Eat the Cat label, and Matney will serve as executive producers too. In this capacity, Fuller will take on the role of showrunner.
A Rewatch of Patricia Arquette’s The Act May be in Order
The upcoming series signifies a second joint project between Arquette, Eat the Cat, Universal Studio Group’s UCP (the production studio), and Hulu. This collaboration follows their successful venture on The Act, which delved into the Gypsy Rose Blanchard case. Notably, Arquette garnered an Emmy and Golden Globe Award for her powerful portrayal of Gypsy’s mother, Dee Dee Blanchard.
True crime series continue to grow in popularity, and the upcoming Murdaugh family series will join a number of critically lauded scripted projects on Hulu, including the Amanda Seyfried-led The Dropout, Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith starring Andrew Garfield, The Girl from Plainville, Under the Bridge, and, of course, Arquette’s The Act. The compelling series, which also starred Joey King as Gypsy Rose, followed the events leading up to Dee Dee’s murder. Given that Gypsy Rose is now out of prison, in love with her own child on the way, and has an ever-growing following on social media, it might be time to give the 2019 series a rewatch. Especially since we’ll have some time until we can binge Arquette’s Murdaugh family series.
Actress Patricia Arquette gained recognition with her role in the 1993 film “True Romance.” Since then, she has appeared in movies like “Ed Wood,” “Lost Highway,” and “Boyhood,” as well as television series such as “Medium,” “Escape at Dannemora,” “The Act,” and “Severance.” She has received acclaim for her performances. Upcoming projects include the untitled Murdaugh Project, “The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde” directed by Kenneth Branagh, co-starring Jodie Comer, and “They Will Kill You,” opposite Zazie Beetz.
