Patrick Stewart’s Marvel Legacy Shocks Fans Amid Avengers 5 Casting Drama

This week, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe received exciting news as the principal cast for the upcoming movie, “Avengers: Doomsday”, was disclosed, with some well-known figures being announced. Among them is Patrick Stewart, who has officially been chosen for the film and will apparently replay his role as Charles Xavier, also known as Professor X. With this casting, Stewart finds himself in a prominent position among the longest-serving Marvel actors, even surpassing longtime collaborator Hugh Jackman.

In the year 2000, both Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman first appeared as Professor X and Wolverine in the movie “X-Men,” respectively, as can be seen on IMDb. Since then, these two actors have been among the longest-serving actors to portray superheroes in Marvel films, whether they were part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) or not. Over the years, Jackman and Stewart have taken turns reprising their roles, but recently, Stewart has surpassed Jackman with an impressive nearly 26-year run that started on July 14, 2000, due to his return in “Doomsday.

Following what was believed to be my final outing as Charles Xavier in Logan (now streaming on Disney+), I stepped back into the role for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022, solidifying my position over my fellow Australian actor. However, old habits die hard, and once more, I slipped into the (fake) claws for Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024. At this point, it appears that I have a strong claim to some well-deserved bragging rights. Yet, I doubt the elegant Sir Stewart would ever boast about it, preferring instead to share the spotlight with his good friend.

Indeed, both acting professionals continue to be positioned behind Wesley Snipes, who presently occupies the top spot on this prestigious list. Initially, Wesley portrayed the character of Blade in the self-titled film, which premiered on August 21, 1998. He later returned to the role in two sequels, with the final installment being released in 2004. Although the X-Men actors managed to catch up over time, Snipes set a significant milestone in 2024 when he reprised his role as the Daywalker in D&W.

It’s a topic of discussion among some people whether Wesley Snipes is leading Patrick Stewart in terms of the Avengers cast, given the casting situation. However, it appears that Snipes presently holds the lead, but by just a short margin – or more accurately, a few weeks. Whether Snipes will continue to hold this position is uncertain, as there’s a possibility that Stewart could reappear in 2027’s Secret Wars. On the other hand, it’s also feasible that Snipes might make an appearance in the same film.

The live broadcast lasting over five hours unveiled the cast of “Avengers: Doomsday”. A dimly lit room was the backdrop, with movie seats labeled with cast members’ names appearing approximately every 12 minutes. For many viewers, the appearance of several former X-Men actors was a highlight, including Patrick Stewart alongside Ian McKellen (Magneto), James Marsden (Cyclops), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique) and others. However, their specific roles in the plot are still kept under wraps.

Regarding the stars involved, it’s a bit unusual not to see Hugh Jackman as Wolverine among them. However, with Robert Downey Jr., who plays Doctor Doom, hinting at more cast additions, there’s a chance that Jackman might have joined but the news hasn’t been shared yet. If true, this would definitely reshuffle their roles. For now, Patrick Stewart can bask in his impressive achievement without any changes to his standing.

The movie titled “Avengers: Doomsday” is scheduled for release in theaters on May 1, 2026, and “Secret Wars” will follow with its premiere on May 7, 2027. In the meantime, don’t forget to catch up on other exciting superhero films that are soon to be released.
