‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Gets Excitng Filming Update From James Gunn

As a devoted fan who has been eagerly following James Gunn’s journey since his days with Marvel, I am absolutely thrilled to see the progress he’s making with the DC Universe (DCU). The news about ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 wrapping up filming for John Cena and Jennifer Holland feels like a milestone in the grand scheme of things.

The fresh vision for the DC Universe (DCU) is fast approaching. In less than a week, ‘Creature Commandos’ will be released, and the initial DCU movie, ‘Superman’, completed filming last summer. Everything seems to be progressing smoothly now, with an update on another project from the writer/director. As it turns out, filming for two main cast members of ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 has been wrapped up.

The director posted on Instagram that John Cena (as Peacemaker’s Christopher Smith) and Jennifer Holland (Emilia Harcourt) have finished shooting their scenes for season 2 of Peacemaker. He expressed that the day they shot was one of the most enjoyable days he’s ever spent on a project, and mentioned that there is just one day left of filming for this Max Original series. The production of Peacemaker Season 2 took place in Savannah, Georgia, which the director also referred to as a unique location for filming.

James Gunn wrapping up filming on Season 2 of Peacemaker signifies a significant achievement for DC Studios, as he and his partner Peter Safran continue to steer the company’s direction successfully. The early stages of their grand narrative and projects are progressing smoothly, as indicated. Moreover, there have been casting confirmations and tentative production schedules revealed for an upcoming DC original series titled Lanterns, as well as a forthcoming Supergirl movie.

What ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2’s Production Schedule Means for the DCU

As James Gunn’s “Peacemaker” and his upcoming “Superman” project progress into post-production, the sequence of events in the DC Universe (DCU) that the co-chairmen of DC Studios revealed earlier this month becomes clearer. In response to a fan on social media, Gunn explained that the storyline of the DCU starts with the release of “Creature Commandos,” followed by “Superman” and then the second season of “Peacemaker.” At present, it appears that the DCU projects can be arranged in order based on their production timeline. However, since various creators are handling different stories within the DCU, this arrangement could change significantly, especially since Gunn won’t be responsible for writing and directing every single film and TV show.

At the moment, specific details about Peacemaker Season 2’s storyline are scarce, with only the introduction of Frank Grillo’s character, Rick Flag Sr., confirmed for his debut in the upcoming series, Creature Commandos, set to air this December. Photos from filming suggest potential modifications to the DC universe, a shift that is not unexpected given that most DCEU films released so far are no longer considered part of continuity, except for those projects that James Gunn wrote, directed, or oversaw before his appointment as Co-Chairman of DC Studios.

Under the leadership of Gunn and Safran as DC Studios heads, there haven’t been any significant production problems or delays for projects under the Gods and Monsters label that were initially announced in January 2023, with the exception of the Amanda Waller television series. Despite potential scheduling adjustments, this new leadership at DC Studios is committed to quality above all else. The question now is whether Superman and Peacemaker Season 2 can match the quality of Gunn’s past works and meet the high expectations set by its meticulous writing and production planning.
