As a dedicated fan who has followed the DC universe through its various iterations, I must say that I am both intrigued and puzzled by the return of Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith in “Peacemaker” Season 2. While his character was brutally killed off in Season 1, it seems that James Gunn, the mastermind behind this series, has some surprising tricks up his sleeve.
Despite the DC Universe undergoing a significant overhaul from its previous iteration, known as the DC Extended Universe, there are some carryovers to expect. Notably, “Peacemaker” Season 2 is scheduled for upcoming DC TV series lineup, with John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick reprising their roles. Interestingly, it appears that Patrick will return for the second season, which might seem unusual given that his character, Auggie Smith, was killed off in Season 1. However, I have a hunch about how his resurrection or return may be explained in the upcoming season.
What Robert Patrick Said About Peacemaker Season 2
At Tampa Bay Comic Con (as reported by PopVerse), Robert Patrick disclosed that he’s recently collaborated with John Cena for Season 2 of “Peacemaker.” Later in the discussion, he praised the show’s creator, James Gunn.
On Friday, I was collaborating with James Gunn. James is truly exceptional; he’s among the most gifted individuals I’ve encountered in my life. His intellect is astounding, and he’s simply a remarkable person. I hold him in high regard, as well as his wife Jennifer Holland. We were finalizing a significant scene for the second season of Peacemaker just before I arrived here on Friday.
If you haven’t watched Peacemaker Season 1 for a while, the character Auggie Smith, played by Patrick, was a racist and abusive father to Cena’s Christopher Smith. He led a white supremacist group under the alias White Dragon. Disappointed in Chris since he accidentally killed his older brother Keith as children, events in Season 1 drove Auggie to attempt killing his surviving son with weapons hidden in his White Dragon suit. However, instead of succeeding, Chris shot him in the head. In the last moments of Season 1, Chris experienced a hallucination where he thought he saw his father sitting beside him after the Butterfly threat was eliminated.
How Auggie Smith Will Likely Return
In the realm of DC Comics, it’s possible, though unlikely, that Auggie Smith could be revived somehow. However, it seems more plausible that the main character of Peacemaker will continue to grapple with his father’s spectral presence in Season 2. Due to the numerous traumas inflicted by Auggie on Christopher, this bitter man’s death doesn’t erase his memory. This is a challenge that requires not just physical force, but a significant amount of mental fortitude for Chris to overcome. It won’t be something he can simply fight or destroy.
It’s possible that Robert Patrick could reappear as Auggie Smith in flashbacks during Season 2 of Peacemaker. This could potentially show Chris interacting with his father before the storyline of The Suicide Squad, which is also considered part of the DC Universe canon. Either way, we can confirm that Patrick is included in the cast for Season 2 of Peacemaker. Alongside new characters, we’ll see Frank Grillo reprising Rick Flag Sr., who has previously appeared in Creature Commandos and Superman. Also joining the cast are Sol Rodríguez as Sasha Bordeaux, Tim Meadows as A.R.G.U.S. agent Langston Fleury, and it’s likely that more exciting additions will be announced soon!
