Peaky Blinders Creator & Stephen Graham Reunite for New Disney+ Series A Thousand Blows

As a fervent admirer of the remarkable talent that is Stephen Graham, I can confidently say that the upcoming series, “A Thousand Blows,” has already catapulted itself to the top of my most anticipated TV shows list. The prospect of seeing the Boardwalk Empire star reunite with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and deliver a transformative performance is nothing short of thrilling.

The prospect of any fresh venture featuring the extraordinarily gifted and BAFTA-nominated actor, Stephen Graham, is enough to generate excitement. This new project, which brings together Boardwalk Empire’s star with Peaky Blinders’ creator, Steven Knight, and promises a remarkable transformation, elevates it to a strong contender for the best TV series of the year. Titled “A Thousand Blows,” details and initial images have been disclosed (via Empire), with the series slated to debut on Disney+ and portray Graham as a boxer in Victorian London.

Accompanying Graham, I found myself immersed in “A Thousand Blows,” a gripping story that brings together BAFTA-winning actor Malachi Kirby (from “Small Axe”) and Erin Doherty (“The Crown”). The renowned writer Steven Knight has crafted this compelling narrative set against the dangerous backdrop of underground boxing in the tumultuous 1880s Victorian London. Below, I invite you to catch a glimpse of the first images from “A Thousand Blows.”

In the film “A Thousand Blows“, Graham presents an exceptionally imposing image, surpassing his typical aura of intimidation. His portrayal in “This Is England” and “Venom: The Last Dance” lends him the appearance of a character somewhere between the menacing villain Bane from “The Dark Knight Rises” and a muscular, conversing punch.

In the official summary, it’s revealed that Kirby takes on the role of Hezekiah Moscow, a Jamaican immigrant who unexpectedly lands in the bustling and brutal mix of post-industrial revolution London’s East End. He becomes entangled in London’s thriving boxing world’s dark underbelly, where he encounters Mary Carr, portrayed by Erin Doherty. Mary is the head of The Forty Elephants, an infamous all-female London gang, and they are seen battling for survival on the city streets.

“With each passing day, Hezekiah hones his fresh abilities. However, he encounters Sugar Goodson, portrayed by Stephen Graham, a veteran and formidable boxer. Their paths cross, and before long, they’re embroiled in a fierce rivalry that transcends the boundaries of the ring.”
