‘Peaky Blinders’ Creator Steven Knight Developing Spinoff Series

'Peaky Blinders' Creator Steven Knight Developing Spinoff Series

As a movie enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the gritty and captivating world of the Peaky Blinders, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and melancholy. Cillian Murphy’s portrayal of Tommy Shelby has been nothing short of masterful, and his time in the series seems to be drawing to a close with the upcoming movie. However, the fact that the franchise is set to continue with a new spin-off show, focusing on the next generation after World War II, brings a glimmer of hope.

In the future, it seems Cillian Murphy’s tenure in “Peaky Blinders” may be wrapping up with an upcoming movie, but the series is set to carry on in a fresh spin-off storyline. Creator Steven Knight initially introduced viewers to Tommy Shelby back in 2013. The series, which was set post World War I, followed Tommy as he returned to Birmingham to helm the Peaky Blinders gang, alongside his brother Arthur Shelby (Paul Anderson) and Aunt Polly Gray (Helen McCrory). The highly popular show concluded in 2022 after its sixth season. Knight is planning to bring Tommy’s tale to a close with the upcoming Netflix film. However, the “Peaky Blinders” legacy will continue beyond Tommy Shelby, as Knight has announced plans for the franchise to persist.

In an interview with Paris Match, creator Steven Knight hinted at the possibility of the Peaky Blinders world expanding beyond the upcoming film. Apart from writing and directing the movie, Knight has also penned a stage adaptation of the series, set to premiere in March. However, Knight isn’t content with just that, as he’s also planning a surprising new spin-off for the franchise. In his words:

Our attention is turning towards post-World War II times, as we develop a sequence of stories centered around the subsequent generations.

In the upcoming “Peaky Blinders” film, events unfold during the heart of World War II. Details about the storyline remain under wraps, but there’s a strong possibility that several members from the Peaky Blinders gang may be called to serve on the battlefield. The psychological impact of World War I was prominently depicted in the original series, as both Tommy and his brother Arthur saw action in Europe. With Tommy Shelby potentially facing another call to arms against the Nazis, it remains to be seen how his PTSD will cope with this new challenge.

Apart from announcing a new spin-off series for ‘Peaky Blinders’, creator Steven Knight has disclosed that the movie version has already wrapped up production. Starring alongside Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy and Stephen Graham in this continuation of the original series is Barry Keoghan. The character played by Keoghan hasn’t been fully revealed yet, but fans have caught a glimpse of him in costume through an official photograph released by Netflix. Tim Roth, famous for his roles in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Pulp Fiction’ and ‘Reservoir Dogs’, and Rebecca Ferguson from ‘Dune’ will also be part of the film. As of now, no details have been given about the new characters that will appear.

As a die-hard Peaky Blinders fan, I’m thrilled to share that the movie is now in post-production! In the upcoming weeks, we can look forward to unveiling more intriguing plot points and a definitive list of our talented cast members.
