As a seasoned gamer and avid reader of fantasy novels, I am thrilled to hear about the second season of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.” Having grown up devouring Rick Riordan’s books, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia mixed with anticipation.
The filming of the second season for Percy Jackson and the Olympians has commenced, yet its lead actors made an appearance at Disney’s D23 fan gathering on Saturday to disclose that some fresh faces will be added to the cast.
In the latest news, Walker Scobell, Aryan Simhadri, and Leah Sava Jeffries joined their fellow regulars Charlie Bushnell and Dior Goodjohn, as well as newcomer Daniel Diemer, who will portray Tyson the cyclops in the upcoming season. The team gave a sneak peek of what’s to come (check it out below), featuring Percy (Scobell) commanding a chariot, and also revealed some fresh faces joining the show.
Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal, and Margaret Cho will appear as the Gray Sisters, a trio that operates a unique taxi service called the Chariot of Damnation. They share a single eye and tooth among them. Sandra Bernhard portrays Anger, the supervisor who’s in charge of collecting fares and is growing restless to take her turn with the shared eye. Kristen Schaal embodies Tempest, the current holder of the eye, using it to observe the heroes, foresee their future, and occasionally poke fun at their social lives. Lastly, Margaret Cho plays Wasp, the primary driver of the taxi who takes demigods on a thrilling journey to Camp Half-Blood.
In the second season of the show, it follows the storyline of “The Sea of Monsters,” which is the second book in Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series and serves as both an author and co-creator/executive producer. After a year since the events of season one, Percy finds his life turned topsy-turvy when he returns to Camp Half-Blood. His relationship with Annabeth (Jeffries) is shifting, he discovers that he has a cyclops sibling, Grover (Simhadri) mysteriously vanishes, and the camp is under attack by Kronos’ forces. To make things right, Percy embarks on a perilous journey that leads him beyond familiar territory into the treacherous Sea of Monsters, where an unknown destiny lies in wait for him.
Riordan’s executive team works on the second season of the show, led by showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, along with Rebecca Riordan, Craig Silverstein, Bert Salke, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein from The Gotham Group, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, James Bobin, Jim Rowe, Albert Kim, Jason Ensler, and Sarah Watson.
