Pete Davidson And Colin Jost's Staten Island Ferry Gets Two Updates In One Week, And This One's A 'Screamboat'

As a seasoned gamer who has navigated through countless virtual worlds and real-life challenges, I find myself intrigued by this peculiar tale of comedians-turned-ferry-owners. The Titanic 2 saga, with its ups and downs, mirrors the unpredictable nature of a level boss in a video game; you never know when it’ll hit you with an unexpected twist or turn.

Pete Davidson and Colin Jost are famous on television through Saturday Night Live (with Jost still scheduled to appear in the show up until 2025), but they share an unusual connection: a retired Staten Island ferry that they bought for $280,000 in 2022 and renamed as Titanic 2. They had ambitious plans for this boat, but it ended up being an eyesore to the locals. However, there have been two recent developments regarding whether the ship is beneficial to the comedians, one of which came from Scarlett Johansson.

Earlier this week, Scarlett Johansson – who has been involved in the ferry saga whether she likes it or not as Jost’s wife – revealed that the Tommy Hilfiger Fashion Show happened on the boat earlier this year. That’s certainly more in line with the initial goal to turn it into a live entertainment space when Jost and Davidson made the purchase… almost three years ago. Better late than never? The Weekend Update co-anchor did predict back in 2023 that people were “going to be BEGGING to get on this ferry in two years”.

Although the Titanic 2 may lack scenes of people pleading for survival and weekly high-profile fashion events onboard, the rapid release of two updates in quick succession appears to align better with their method of purchasing the ship.

As reported by TMZ, the ferry has been used in a horror movie titled “Screamboat” following Steamboat Willie’s entry into the public domain. This filming required an extensive amount of fake blood that necessitated hiring a specialized cleaning crew to restore the ferry to its original state, reminiscent of the cleanup after the sinking of the Titanic. The news outlet claims that directing on the Staten Island ferry has long been a dream for Steven LaMorte, and local producers have reached out to representatives of Colin Jost and Pete Davidson for permission. Reportedly, these Saturday Night Live icons have granted their approval, although they are not expected to play significant roles in “Screamboat”.

Based on reports from TMZ’s sources, the entire filming of the independent movie reportedly took place on the ferry. However, it seems that certain scenes might also have been shot on land, as suggested by the footage in the trailer preview.

Let it not be said that filmmakers aren’t making the most of beloved characters entering the public domain! Not too long after Winnie the Pooh became public domain, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey released to mixed reviews. I’m just going to go ahead and predict that Screamboat is going to be much more along the lines of Bloody and Honey than takes on public domain characters like Peter Pan and Robin Hood.

It’s uncertain if Pete Davidson and/or Colin Jost will comment on the movie “Screamboat“, but it’d be exciting if its horror theme led to another “SNL” sketch similar to their “Three Guys Who Just Bought a Boat” segment on Weekend Update. For the moment, catch more of Jost when “Saturday Night Live” airs again on NBC in December. You can also catch past episodes featuring both actors on Peacock.
