Pete Finds A Better Way To Use His Powers

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Ghosts season 4, episode 19, “Pinkus Returns.”

In the fourth season of the series “Ghosts”, there’s been an impressive expansion of its supernatural themes. Recently, Pete discovered a more effective use for his ghostly abilities. One of the last spirits to gain powers in CBS’ “Ghosts” was Hetty. The idea of “roamer” ghosts was introduced by Joan in season 4, episode 17, providing guidelines for Pete’s power. In season 4, episode 19, we are reminded that Pete hasn’t ended his relationship with Donna, a woman who allegedly killed her husband, but Jay scolds him for ignoring her. Pete journeys to St. Lucia, yet Donna maintains her innocence regarding the murder of her husband, though she’s unaware of the culprit.

In a twist of events, Pete visits a place he believes to be home and engages with Richard, who claims to have spectated Donna’s murder in 1984 while being a ghost. However, upon closer inspection, Jay discovers that the cassette tape continually playing on Richard’s Walkman is actually Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ album from 1986, suggesting that Richard couldn’t have been a spirit during the murder year. As it turns out, Richard admits his deception to shield Donna, implying her innocence in the crime. This lightheartedly prompts Donna to suggest that Pete should delve into unsolved mysteries much like Columbo, which could be interpreted as a subtle jab at CBS’ reboot of Matlock, yet an intriguing concept for exploring ghostly tales.

Pete Finds A Better Way To Use His Powers In Ghosts (& It Could Help Sam Too)

Pete Wants To Team Up With Sam To Solve Cold Cases

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to propose an exciting collaboration with my friend Sam: we join forces to unravel long-forgotten mysteries, a task that seems tailor-made for our unique abilities. You see, I’ve employed my special powers in the past, such as helping Thor find peace in ‘Ghosts’ season 4, episode 11. However, I believe I’ve only tapped into a fraction of what I can accomplish with my “roaming” gift. Tackling cold cases would provide me with a profound sense of purpose, while offering Sam tales as captivating and unique as the characters we both adore.

Ghosts & Their Powers In CBS’ Ghosts
Ghost Name Period/Occupation Power
Pete Martino Travel agent & Pinecone Troop leader Can leave the property at will (but not indefinitely)
Trevor Lefkowitz Stockbroker Can move material objects with great effort
Sasappis Lenape Native American (1500s) Entering livings’ dreams
Thorfinn Viking Harnessing electricity
Flower Hippie Makes livings high if they pass through her
Henrietta “Hetty” Woodstone Gilded Age socialite & Lady of the Manor Be seen by all livings on St. Patrick’s Day
Alberta Haynes Prohibition lounge singer Project a humming/singing sound
Isaac Higgintoot Revolutionary War captain Gives off a foul smell if a living passes through him

I, being a homebody who thrives on comfort, turned down my idea due to its appeal for adventure. However, I realize now that my decision might have been too narrow-minded, given the tremendous storytelling potential it held as an aspiring writer. It was an extraordinary opportunity, something unique and authentic, a tale so incredible it would be hard to believe were it not true. With my existing writing projects like Isaac’s fictionalized vampire biography, this could have been a seamless extension of my creative endeavors.

Pete & Sam’s Potential Team-Up Will Break Ghosts’ Storytelling

It’s The Perfect Opportunity To Get Outside Of Woodstone Manor

As a film enthusiast, I’ve got to admit that “Ghosts” has taken some playful jabs at “The Bear,” and while it packs more genuine laughs in a single cold open than “The Bear” manages in an entire season, there’s one aspect where it struggles mightily: the visual diversity of its setting. Since the show is largely set within Woodstone Manor and uses similar costumes for most characters across episodes, it can be tricky at times to make each episode visually stand out from the rest.

If the show were to make full use of Pete’s wandering nature alongside Sam’s special abilities, it could pave the way for a multitude of innovative storytelling opportunities. A brief glimpse of Pete in St. Lucia and Richard’s backyard added a refreshing twist to the scenery. Pete hinted at this investigative team as a joke to wrap up the episode, but it’s an idea that could be developed further in seasons 5 and 6 of Ghosts. Broadening the show’s locations would maintain its charm, humor, and beloved chaos while keeping the series feeling new and exciting.

On Thursdays at 8:30 PM Eastern Time, you can catch the latest episodes of Ghosts. If you miss it, don’t worry! You can stream it the next day on Paramount+. Mark your calendars for April 24, 2025, as Season 4, episode 20 titled “I Know What You Did Thirty-Seven Summers Ago” will be aired then.
