Peter Todd-inspired meme coin YOURMOM skyrockets over 4000% in live trading

As an analyst with extensive experience in the cryptocurrency market, I find myself constantly intrigued by the unpredictable and often humorous antics that transpire within this dynamic ecosystem. The recent viral meme coin phenomenon surrounding Bitcoin developer Peter Todd is no exception.

Bitcoin developer Peter Todd’s snarky reply to an X user’s post asking about the name of his pets has been turned into a viral meme coin that has soared past 130% in the past 24 hours. Todd was recently claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, by an HBO documentary.

In contrast to what was suggested in the HBO documentary, Canadian Bitcoin developer Peter Todd has refuted the notion that he is Satoshi Nakamoto. However, this denial hasn’t hindered crypto enthusiasts from creating numerous meme coins associated with him.

The meme cryptocurrency known as $YOURMOM, modeled after Todd’s post on X, has skyrocketed by over 4000% based on information from GeckoTerminal. This Solana-backed token is now being traded at a price of approximately $0.002647 and has amassed a market capitalization of around $2.4 million in just hours since its debut on October 9.

As a researcher, I traced the inception of the $YOURMOM token back to an interaction between one Solana user, who went by @iwantitmore_sol, and Todd. The user playfully pointed out Todd’s affinity for Solana memes by saying he was “all over the Solana memesphere”. Intrigued by this, the user then inquired about Todd’s pets and their names, subtly suggesting a trend of naming coins after animals. This interaction sparked the creation of the $YOURMOM token, as Todd took up the challenge and named the new coin after his own mother, keeping with the humorous tradition of meme tokens in the crypto world.

To all the Solana memecoin degens spamming my mentios, I have one pet and it’s name is your mom.

In response to the X user’s comment, Todd made a sarcastic remark by referring to his pet’s name as “their mother.” Memecoin creators then seized this opportunity and produced several meme tokens over the past 16 hours, each bearing the ticker symbol “YourMom” and some even featuring Todd’s image as the token’s icon.

Just as quickly, the creators of the Solana meme coin developed tokens inspired by Len Sassaman and his two cats, Odin and Sasha, when he emerged as the most favored candidate among Polymarket bettors for uncovering Satoshi Nakamoto’s real identity.

Following the HBO documentary’s identification of Peter Todd as Satoshi Nakamoto instead of Sassaman, memecoins inspired by the cryptographer experienced a steep decline in value. As per CoinMarketCap data, the token known as SASHA, which is named after Sassaman’s orange cat, has plummeted by 88.21% within the last 24 hours.

Just like Odin, Sassaman’s feline-themed meme token, experienced a significant drop in value – approximately 90% – within hours of the HBO documentary’s release, as reported by GeckoTerminal.

On October 8th, the HBO documentary titled “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Enigma” suggested that Canadian Bitcoin programmer Peter Todd might be the enigmatic figure known as Satoshi Nakamoto.

One key point made by documentary producer Cullen Hobak is that he believes some mysterious online messages, one of which referred to Todd as “the world’s foremost authority on disposing of Bitcoins,” may have been a covert confession suggesting that Todd intentionally lost or hid access to the approximately 1.1 million BTC linked to Nakamoto, the supposed creator of Bitcoin.

The documentary further fueled speculation with claims that Todd once accidentally posted from Satoshi’s account on the BitcoinTalk forum in 2010.

Prior to the airing of the documentary, Todd has consistently refused theories suggesting him as the real creator of Bitcoin. On October 8th, he addressed a comment on X by stating that he is not Satoshi, the pseudonym associated with the creation of Bitcoin.
