Phaidon is delving into the captivating universe of MSCHF for its upcoming hardcover release. This publication, referred to by the publisher as a “humorous guide to the inner mechanisms” of the art collective established by Lukas Bentel and Kevin Wiesner, titled “Made by MSCHF“, gathers twelve detailed case studies and exclusive behind-the-scenes photos in the first comprehensive – totaling 384 pages – exploration into the Brooklyn-based group.
MSCHF, as both a practice and an organization, strives to match the influence of global corporations, celebrities, and media giants in shaping culture, according to their Instagram post announcing the book’s release. Throughout its existence, MSCHF has been characterized by what it produces; it was designed to be a collection of projects. Made by MSCHF offers a glimpse into our operations, an exploration of how we work, and an endeavor to express the essence of our unique working style.
In this book, MSCHF’s co-founders Bentel and Wiesner contribute a substantial amount of the content, while Karen Wong, Amy Adler, Lauren Boyle, Maurizio Cattelan, Blake Gopnik, Natasha Jen, and Sean Monahan also provide additional insights, with Lydia Pang adding further text.
As a dedicated gamer, I’d say I’ve been diving deep into a fascinating collection of gaming experiences that perfectly encapsulate the unique spirit of MSCHF. This anthology, titled “Severed Spots” (2020), “Tax Heaven 3000” (2022), “Key4All” (2019) and the legendary “Big Red Boots” (2023), to name a few, are all part of this captivating journey. These gamecase studies, as I like to call them, have been carefully categorized into two main chapters: “Absurd Systems” and “Absurd Objects.” Additionally, Phaidon has meticulously documented MSCHF’s 200-plus releases over the past five years, providing an immersive look at their creative process.
The book costs $79.95 USD and can currently be pre-ordered from Phaidon’s official site, with estimated delivery by approximately March 6th.
