Leading up to Pharrell Williams’ Louis Vuitton fashion show during the Fall/Winter 2025 Paris Fashion Week, Skateboard P has been using Instagram to give sneak peeks of what’s to come in the new collection. Before the show, he dropped hints that his long-time friend and collaborator, NIGO, will be teaming up with him for the FW25 season. The ButterSoft sneaker generated a lot of online excitement after Pharrell previewed over 40 colorways featuring prominent Louis Vuitton branding on the midfoot. As an initial teaser, it offered a glimpse at the inspiration behind the new collection, drawing comparisons to his Ice Cream Boardflip design from the mid-2000s, while some also noticed similarities to the Nike Cortez.
Looking back at the fashion trend of the late 90s and early 00s known as Y2K skatewear, Pharrell and NIGO are returning to a period they significantly influenced some twenty years ago. Demonstrating their continued relevance and endurance in the industry, it’s only fitting that this collection is presented at the Louvre Museum. Just as museum artifacts symbolize a moment in time that shaped history, one could argue that NIGO and Pharrell’s role in merging skatewear with high-end luxury is nothing short of historic. Previews have revealed a range of Y2K-inspired varsity jackets, reviving the collegiate style for this collection. Stepping away from the cowboy theme, Pharrell infuses this season with his love for bold graphics, drawing inspiration from his past to create a new collection for everyone. This time, Y2K references are more personal, appearing as flip phone keychains and other items.
In the upcoming Louis Vuitton Men’s Fall/Winter 2025 Collection, designed by Pharrell Williams and NIGO, titled “Remember the Future,” both designers acknowledge that progress often involves a glance at the past. With their friendship and creative partnership spanning decades, this collection represents a blending of roles – one as an archivist preserving the past, and the other as a point of reference for the future. NIGO contributes his extensive collection of 20th-century workwear to shape the design direction, while Pharrell’s personal style serves as its driving force. The result is a harmonious fusion of Louis Vuitton’s heritage and contemporary LVERS philosophy.
In the grand setting of the Louvre Museum, visitors make their way to the fashion show by treading upon a Louis Vuitton-branded red carpet. The ambiance is set with guests seated in a rotunda encircled by an orchestra playing live music from above. Surrounding the runway are structures reminiscent of vaults, and models gracefully move about showcasing the latest designs. Celebrities like Callum Turner, J-Hope, Idris Elba, Chris Paul, Victor Wembanyama, Travis Scott, and others graced the event with their presence. The collection showcased a series of recurring themes. During the presentation, LV ambassador J-Hope unveiled a new track in collaboration with Don Toliver right on the runway. A lobster accessory was also part of the display, which interestingly enough, was inspired by Pharrell and NIGO’s surprise catch during their fishing trip to Japan.
As I delved into their collection, it felt like a visual journey through the years of their creative bond. From NIGO showcasing his love for practical workwear – turning chore jackets into knitted pieces and his iconic trucker hat – to Pharrell’s reinterpretation of Louis Vuitton’s heritage designs, the collection is a snapshot of their artistic evolution.
The “Future Archives” items truly encapsulate their friendship, with silhouettes of both NIGO and Pharrell adorning key accessories and clothes. As they took their final walk around the rotunda, the glowing structures unveiled a trove of collectibles and clothing from their personal archives. These exclusive pieces will be up for grabs at auction on JOOPITER later this week.
