Pharrell Williams Lego Biopic ‘Piece by Piece’ to Close 68th BFI London Film Festival

As a seasoned gamer and music enthusiast with a soft spot for nostalgia, I must say that I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming release of “Piece by Piece.” Growing up in Virginia Beach myself, hearing Pharrell Williams’ story told through the unique medium of Lego animation feels like a homecoming.

As a longtime fan of both Lego creations and Pharrell Williams, I am thrilled to learn that the upcoming animated biopic about the American rapper, singer, and producer will be closing this year’s BFI London Film Festival (LFF). Having grown up in the ’90s, I vividly remember the release of “Happy” – a song that brought joy to millions with its infectious beat and positive message. Pharrell’s music has always been a reflection of his vibrant personality, and I can’t wait to see how his life story is portrayed through the unique lens of Lego animation. As someone who has always admired Pharrell’s ability to reinvent himself across various genres, I believe this film will not only entertain but also inspire future generations to pursue their dreams, just as he did.

The 68th London Film Festival (BFI LFF), happening from October 9th to 20th, will conclude with the U.K. debut of a Lego-style documentary about Williams’ life. Both Williams and Academy Award-winning director Morgan Neville are scheduled to appear at the closing night gala of the London festival.

In addition to Williams, the film features Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Missy Elliot, Gwen Stefani, Justin Timberlake, Busta Rhymes, and Snoop Dogg as stars. The movie traces Williams’ journey from his modest origins in Virginia Beach, detailing his rise through his early days as a Neptunes producer, all the way to his achievements as one of the music industry’s most prominent artists.

Neville shared that the BFI London Film Festival has been a significant part of his career journey for more than two decades, as he made his debut there more than 20 years ago. Speaking about his latest work, Piece by Piece, he expressed how meaningful it is to showcase it at the LFF. To top it off, being chosen as the closing night gala is an enormous honor for him. He’s excited to share this film with the London audience and celebrate this achievement together.

Piece by Piece will be released in U.S. theaters on Oct. 11 and in the U.K. on Nov. 8.

The closing movie of the BFI London Film Festival, which takes place in collaboration with American Express, will be shown at the Royal Festival Hall within the Southbank Centre on October 20th (Sunday). Simultaneously, nine partner venues across the U.K. will screen the same film.
