Pharrell Williams Unveils Two New Japanese Restaurants in Miami

As a food enthusiast and long-time Pharrell Williams fan, I am beyond thrilled to hear about his latest venture into the culinary world! Growing up listening to his music and admiring his eclectic style, it feels surreal that the man behind hits like “Happy” is now opening not one, but TWO Japanese restaurants in Miami.

I’ve always been captivated by Pharrell’s global vision and creativity, so I can only imagine how these two restaurants will be a perfect blend of New York’s best hand-rolls and his unique touch. Having had the privilege to visit Nami Nori when it opened in mid-December, I am eagerly awaiting the opening of Matsuyoi this month.

Being a Miami resident myself, I couldn’t be happier that Pharrell chose our vibrant city as the first location for these restaurants before even considering his hometown of Virginia Beach. The fact that both Nami Nori and Matsuyoi are located in the Design District makes it even more exciting, as it adds another layer to the already thriving food scene in the area.

I’ve heard great things about Chef Taka Sakeda’s multi-course menu at Matsuyoi, especially his open-style hand rolls, or temaki. The 10-seat chef’s counter surrounded by a cocktail bar and lounge vibe sounds like an unforgettable dining experience. Plus, the design inspired by wood-block artist Kawase Hasui, with shou sugi ban woods and black terra-cotta tiles, is sure to create a stunning atmosphere.

On the other hand, Nami Nori downstairs offers signature hand-rolls that I can’t wait to try, such as the X.O. sauce scallop, tuna poke, and spicy crab dynamite. The neutral tones, bright airiness, and space inspired by Miami’s beaches will make for a perfect setting to enjoy these delicious rolls.

I can’t wait to see what other surprises Pharrell has in store for us foodies with his new partnership with Launchpad Hospitality group. One thing is for sure, this collaboration is going to be a game-changer for Miami’s culinary scene and I can’t help but wonder if he’ll drop some new music to accompany our sushi rolls!

Oh, and let’s not forget the joke – Pharrell Williams: making me happy with good food AND good tunes since 2003. Can’t wait for more of both at Nami Nori and Matsuyoi!

In a new collaboration with Launchpad Hospitality group, music icon Pharrell Williams has introduced two Japanese eateries in Miami – Nami Nori and Matsuyoi. Drawing inspiration from one of his favorite dining spots, Skateboard P is merging New York’s finest hand-roll restaurant expertise with the visionary creativity he’s known for, in the Design District of this energetic Florida city.

As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to share that for the very first time, Nami Nori and Pharrell have teamed up! While the Nami Nori outpost in Miami debuted in mid-December, their latest venture, Matsuyoi, is set to open this month. This collaboration marks a significant milestone since Pharrell became a partner and advisor with Launchpad Hospitality group. Being a Miami resident himself, Pharrell wanted to introduce these exceptional restaurants here first before they grace his hometown of Virginia Beach.

As a seasoned foodie who has traveled far and wide, I must say that my recent dining experience at Matsuyoi in Miami’s Design District was nothing short of extraordinary! Stepping into this upscale, intimate eatery, I immediately felt transported to a tranquil Japanese oasis. The ambiance was moody yet inviting, with its dark stone chef’s counter, shou sugi ban woods, and black terra-cotta tiles that complemented the cozy cocktail bar and lounge vibe.

The menu, crafted by Chef Taka Sakeda, was a delightful journey through an array of open-style hand rolls, or temaki, each dish more delectable than the last. The X.O. sauce scallop, tuna poke, and spicy crab dynamite hand-rolls at Nami Nori downstairs were particularly memorable.

The private dining room and terrace, seating 14 people, added a touch of exclusivity to the experience, making it perfect for special occasions or intimate gatherings. Matsuyoi’s refined atmosphere and exceptional cuisine make it an unforgettable destination for any food enthusiast seeking a truly unique culinary adventure.

The design was inspired by wood-block artist Kawase Hasui, creating a warm, welcoming environment that perfectly encapsulates the essence of Japanese culture. Overall, my visit to Matsuyoi was a truly memorable experience that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a dining destination that offers both exceptional food and an unparalleled ambiance.

Nami Nori is now open for reservations in Miami.
