Phish still controls Rock and Roll Hall of Fame voting with 10 days left

2025 seems promising for Phish enthusiasts as their band appears to have a strong chance of being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They’re currently leading fan voting significantly, and it’s worth noting that no artist who has led the Rock Hall fan vote and not been inducted has done so since the Dave Matthews Band in 2020. Fortunately for Phish fans, the Dave Matthews Band was eventually inducted in 2024.

It seems there could be a reason for the lower number of votes this year compared to past years for potential inductees. Could it be because these musical artists are somewhat specialized or niche? Phish is fantastic if you’re into them, yet they don’t sell a huge number of albums, which suggests their fan base might not be as extensive. However, they certainly have a dedicated following, and rightfully so, but their reach appears to be limited.

Since 2018, the annual fan-voted winner has consistently garnered over half a million votes (547,647 specifically). However, in the year 2025, no artist comes close to reaching that number. It appears that something might be suppressing the vote. One possibility is simply the artists’ popularity levels at the moment.

Phish should prepare acceptance speeches for 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame enshrinement

It’s important to note that not every artist deserves enshrinement, but there are certainly many deserving ones. However, no artist has achieved the same level of recognition as George Michael did in 2023 or Bon Jovi in 2018. Billy Idol and Bad Company should definitely be considered, as their vote totals are significantly lower than in previous years for artists who typically rank second and third at this stage of the voting process for musical artists.

Fans have until April 21 to submit their votes in the poll. All these votes will be compiled into a single ballot and merged with approximately a thousand others. The winner of this fan vote is more of a symbolic honor, as it doesn’t necessarily determine who gets inducted. However, the first place finisher has the highest probability, so Phish might start rehearsing their acceptance speeches just in case.

The 2025 inductees will be announced later in April.
