Piccolo’s Secret Technique: The Key to Defeating Gomah in Dragon Ball DAIMA!

For more than four decades now, Akira Toriyama’s beloved creation, Dragon Ball, has kept fans captivated without any signs of slowing down. The latest expansion to this iconic franchise is a 20-episode anime series titled Dragon Ball DAIMA. This new installment presents an original narrative bridging the gap between Kid Buu’s defeat and Dragon Ball Super, delving into the enigmatic Demon Realm. While the Demon Realm has been hinted at since the early days of Dragon Ball, it is only in Dragon Ball DAIMA that our heroes make their canonical trip to this perilous land for the first time.

In this story, a mischievous wish from Dragon Ball and a vicious abduction set off an adventurous journey into the Demon Realm. However, there aren’t enough resources to ensure everyone can tag along. The lucky few who make it are Piccolo, Vegeta, Bulma, and Shin, all doing their utmost to survive this perilous realm. In the climactic battle of Dragon Ball DAIMA, the villain is King Gomah after he triggers the Evil Third Eye. King Gomah’s power-up is so formidable that even Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta and Super Saiyan 4 Goku struggle to defeat him. Piccolo, who has a potent ability at his disposal – the Self-Destruction Light Grenade – could have potentially eliminated Gomah, securing the victory instead of Majin Kuu.

The Self-Destruction Light Grenade Might Be Piccolo’s Ultimate Attack

Piccolo Debuts This Bold Move Against Planet-Eater Moro

In my observation, the enigmatic artifact known as the Evil Third Eye, an age-old relic from a demonic realm, bestows upon its wielder powers beyond comprehension. What was once perceived as a mere jest, Gomah has transformed into one of the most formidable adversaries our heroes have encountered thus far. Even when Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo regain their peak power, they find themselves unable to overcome Gomah. This newfound strength, however, doesn’t provide the heroes with an advantage. The combined might of Super Saiyan 4 Goku, Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta, Majin Duu, and Tamagami Number One still fails to vanquish Gomah.

In the Dragon Ball DAIMA series, there was initially a hint at fusion as a potential method to defeat Gomah, considering it might grant the power needed for victory. However, instead of following this predictable path, DAIMA opts for an unconventional approach using game-like reasoning – three precise strikes must be landed on the back of Gomah’s head. This maneuver will dislodge the Evil Third Eye, a powerful artifact that has repeatedly boosted Gomah’s abilities and healed his wounds even when he sustains severe damage like a gaping chest wound. The outcome is amusingly resolved with Majin Kuu stepping up as an unexpected hero, although it’s suggested that Piccolo could have clinched the victory in a more intense fashion.

In Dragon Ball Super Chapter 62, titled “Edge of Defeat,” Piccolo unveils a potent tactic for the first time. To counter Dende’s healing powers, Moro sets up a restrictive magical barrier around the battlefield, preventing interference or escape. With Goku and Vegeta absent, Moro eliminates Android 17 and 18 using Death Beams. Taking advantage of the barrier, Piccolo devises a plan to detonate a self-destruct mechanism, trapping and obliterating Moro. He readies an enhanced version of – a Self-Destruction Light Grenade – designed to discharge his entire life force in a powerful explosion.

This principle is similar to Vegeta’s Final Explosion. Moro uses a Special Beam Cannon to defeat Piccolo before he could retaliate with his attack, suggesting that its full power remains unknown and might be even stronger than expected. Similarly, Gomah demonstrates the ability to recover from severe injuries, but a single attack that obliterates him entirely – including the Evil Third Eye – could potentially lead to victory. This concept was also present in Cell and Buu, making it fitting for Gomah as well. Employing such an extreme measure would make the conclusion of the Gomah fight more intense rather than comical.

Third Eye Enhanced Gomah Is Presumably Weaker Than Moro

Piccolo Deems This Attack Strong Enough To Take Out The Evil Magic User

In most of their fight against Gomah, the heroes underestimate him, relying on raw strength instead of strategy. This gives Gomah an advantage because they don’t see his cunning tactics. Despite taking heavy blows from Goku and Vegeta, Gomah holds his ground. If Piccolo had used his Self-Destructive Light Grenade from Dragon Ball Super, it likely would have defeated the threat posed by the Demon Realm.

In this scenario, Piccolo asserts that the same attack he’s using can overpower Moro, a character who can hold his ground against Ultra Instinct Goku and Super Saiyan Blue Evolved Vegeta. The battles between Goku and Vegeta with Gomah are intensely satisfying and packed with devastating actions. However, the power levels of Super Saiyan 3 and 4 are significantly lower than the divine energy present in the Ultra Instinct and Super Saiyan Blue Evolved stages. Piccolo’s final, risky all-out attack surpasses even the pinnacle of DAIMA‘s power levels.

In Dragon Ball DAIMA, Piccolo’s lesser-known skills often get overlooked. For one, Piccolo’s Super Giant-Form is a seldom-used technique that he tends to forget about frequently. It would have been intriguing if Piccolo had targeted Gomah with this form, as they would have been evenly matched in size. Additionally, it seems logical that if Piccolo were to deploy his Self-Destruction Light Grenade while in his Super Giant-Form, the explosion’s radius would be significantly larger. Moreover, during the battle against Gomah, Piccolo had Neva fighting alongside him.

Observing the situation, Neva seemed capable of hinting at Piccolo’s Super Giant-Form potential. However, if given the chance, Neva could potentially augment Piccolo’s power significantly. If Neva were to merge with Piccolo, it would be a game-changer, as his additional power would boost the potency of Piccolo’s Self-Destruction Light Grenade exponentially. Interestingly, this enhanced might could potentially allow Piccolo to endure the attack instead of self-destructing. This is somewhat similar to Vegeta’s experience when he employs his enhanced Final God Explosion in his Super Saiyan Blue Evolved form.

A Noble Sacrifice Gives Piccolo A Greater Sense Of Purpose In Dragon Ball DAIMA

Piccolo Becomes DAIMA’s Least Important Hero

It’s great that Piccolo has been chosen to join the exclusive group of Dragon Ball characters venturing to DAIMA’s Demon Realm. Creator Akira Toriyama has often expressed his fondness for Piccolo, with the Namekian having just wrapped up a thrilling stint in the limelight following his Orange Piccolo transformation. Given the success of this storyline, it’s not unreasonable to expect that Dragon Ball DAIMA might capitalize on this momentum. Interestingly, beyond Piccolo’s emotional connection to the Demon Realm, there isn’t much for the character to engage in during his stay. Unlike Goku and Vegeta, Piccolo doesn’t battle any of the Tamagamis or get a significant fight scene, nor does he undergo a new transformation.

In simpler terms, using the Self-Destruct Light Grenade would have resolved this situation and hinted at its future use against Moro. However, since Piccolo is still alive in Dragon Ball Super, the grenade’s purpose is to sacrifice the user, which isn’t applicable here. Dragon Ball Super sometimes bends or ignores its own rules, so it wouldn’t be unexpected if Neva created a new Piccolo or if they planted a part of him as a “seed” that grows into a new Piccolo with Great Witch Marba’s aid. Essentially, self-destruction doesn’t have to be a barrier for Piccolo to use this potent move that could have saved the day. It would be more beneficial than making him an inactive character.
