It appears that some timeless gems from Pixar Animation Studio are experiencing a surge in popularity on streaming platforms like Hulu. This week, three of Pixar’s films – Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, and The Incredibles – have climbed their way onto the top 10 movies chart on Hulu, with viewers rediscovering these classics. The combination of Disney+ and Hulu libraries has made it easier for people to access a wider variety of content, resulting in these old favorites regaining their relevance. This resurgence serves as a testament to the enduring appeal of Pixar’s animated masterpieces.
2003 saw the release of the fifth Pixar movie, “Finding Nemo”. Over two decades later, this beloved animated film still ranks second on Hulu, solidifying its status as a timeless classic. Not only did it win an Oscar, but it also holds a unique record for being the best-selling DVD ever produced. Andrew Stanton, director of “Finding Nemo”, has been instrumental in Pixar’s success. He co-wrote all the “Toy Story” movies and “Monsters, Inc.”, and later wrote and directed its sequel, “Finding Dory”, as well as the critically acclaimed “WALL-E”. This suggests that “Finding Nemo” is not only a commercial success but also a significant contribution to Pixar’s rich cinematic legacy.
Apart from two other Pixar films that made it to the top five, specifically “Ratatouille” and “The Incredibles”, were both helmed by Brad Bird. This director, who is also recognized for directing “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”, is frequently regarded as a colossus in the animation world. His first directorial venture, the 1999 film “The Iron Giant”, is often hailed as a cult favorite and one of the best animated films ever made.
Pixar’s Success on Hulu Proves the Studio Still Has Relevance
Both Ratatouille and The Incredibles present unique narratives within their respective genres. Ratatouille challenges stereotypes about individuals, creativity, and passions, while The Incredibles subverts comic book clichés and mythology, all while weaving a touching tale of a family learning to embrace and appreciate one another’s uniqueness. Despite some recent box office struggles for Pixar (apart from Inside Out 2), the enduring popularity of their older titles demonstrates their lasting appeal.
It’s reassuring to see that Pixar, following their announcements at last year’s D23 event, appears to be firmly established and continuing its journey. They seem to be striking a fine balance between producing sequels, like the successful “Inside Out 2”, and original stories that have been instrumental in establishing Pixar as a powerhouse in animation. Classics such as “Finding Nemo”, “Ratatouille”, and “The Incredibles” demonstrate that both sequels and fresh ideas, guided by skilled filmmakers with passion for their projects, can thrive.
These three animated hits on Hulu’s top 10 list could potentially inspire sequels on the platform. Meanwhile, fans eager to follow the stories of “Finding Dory” and “The Incredibles 2” may find them on Disney+. Additionally, a third “Incredibles” movie is in development by Brad Bird for a future release.
