Plantoons is a new PvZ-alike, out now on Google Play

  • Plantoons is a new title from a two-person development team
  • Produced as part of a game jam, it riffs on the PvZ tower defence formula
  • Completely free, duke it out in this roguelite garden warfare game

As a seasoned gamer with decades under my belt, I’ve seen it all – from pixelated classics to cutting-edge VR experiences. Yet, there’s always room for something fresh and innovative, and that’s exactly what Plantoons seems to be. Born from the creative minds of a two-person development team during a game jam, this title promises to deliver a unique twist on the tried-and-true tower defense formula, much like Plants vs Zombies did years ago.

Tending to a garden can sometimes feel laborious as it involves selecting appropriate plants for specific periods, ensuring their proper care, and constantly battling weeds and other potential problems. However, the new game Plantoons aims to alleviate some of that effort by having your plants defend themselves against threats! In essence, this game simplifies the weeding process for you.

Though it might not dazzle with visuals, this PvZ-like game offers an equally engaging gameplay experience where your garden transforms into a battlefield along lane-based tower defense lines. Constructed around roguelike elements, you’ll gradually enhance your garden as you advance through the rounds.

Currently, the game Plantoons appears quite basic, but considering it was developed by just two people, it seems worth giving it a shot. Plus, since it doesn’t cost anything, we can’t help but recommend trying it out.

We discovered Plantoons as a creation from a game jam, which is essentially a fast-paced competition where developers strive to produce a playable prototype of a game within a tight time frame. Although there are similarities with games like Plants vs Zombies, we believe it has turned out quite impressively.

You can find Plantoons on Google Play for free, right now.
