CBS has canceled Poppa’s House and The Summit after just one season apiece.
The television series “Poppa’s House” features Damon Wayans (known for shows like “My Wife and Kids” and “The Last Boy Scout”) along with his son, Damon Wayans Jr. (“New Girl” and “The Other Guys”). In this show, the elder Wayans portrays a talk-radio host named “Poppa,” who faces a change in perspective both at work when a new female co-host joins, and at home as he continues to guide his adult son, a creative dreamer trying to balance his passions, responsibilities as a father, and duties as a husband.
In the show called “Poppa’s House“, Wayans Jr. took on the role of Junior, while Essence Atkins portrayed Poppa’s new co-host named Ivy. Tetona Jackson played the character of Nina, who was Junior’s wife. This production was brought to you by CBS Studios.
16 strangers embarked on a 2-week expedition across the breathtaking New Zealand Alps as part of the survival competition called “The Summit.” Their goal was to conquer a distant, towering mountain peak. Along the way, they faced numerous perils and each contestant carried an equal portion of a $1 million prize. The entire reward went to the person who made it to the summit first.
The event known as The Summit was orchestrated by Manu Bannett, and brought to you by Endemol Shine North America. The executive producers were Kevin Lee, Tina Nicotera, along with Sharon Levy and Michael Heyerman from Endemol Shine North America. This series is modeled on a format originating from Endemol Shine Australia and Nine.
In a turn of events, CBS takes something away while also giving something new. On Tuesday, CBS commissioned an hour-long drama titled “Einstein” and a single-camera comedy called “DMV”. Furthermore, earlier today, CBS decided to greenlight the fall series for the spinoff of “FBI”, named “CIA”. This new show will be positioned in the same fictional universe as “FBI”, focusing on the Central Intelligence Agency. Tom Ellis, known for his roles in “Lucifer” and “Tell Me Lies”, will star in this series. Similar to “FBI”, the show hails from Universal Television, Dick Wolf’s Wolf Entertainment, and CBS Studios. This order for “CIA” ensures that Dick Wolf will continue to have multiple shows at CBS during the 2025-26 season.
Initially, the CIA was conceived as a spinoff of the FBI, with the working title “FBI: CIA”. This idea was that characters would be introduced in an episode of the original series towards the end of its current season. However, CBS and the show’s producers decided against this approach and instead aimed for a direct-to-series pickup. They managed to achieve it.
