Porsche Hints at Return of GT2 RS and Announces New SUV

Porsche has given a strong indication that the high-performance GT2 RS version of their iconic 911 car might be making a comeback, as hinted in their recent financial statement. Additionally, they’ve announced plans for creating a new gasoline-powered SUV model, which may hit the market by the end of this coming decade.

In their latest report, Porsche emphasized the ongoing development of its iconic 911 series, hinting at “passionate spin-offs” and “high-performance, exclusive limited-run vehicles.” One such model they’ve mentioned is a top-tier model slated for release, promising to set new standards in the sports car category. This implies the possible comeback of the GT2 or GT2 RS, a model last seen in the 991.2 generation, boasting 700 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque from a twin-turbocharged flat-six engine.

Should the GT2 RS be reintroduced, it’s expected to stick to its classic recipe: a rear-wheel drive configuration modeled after the 911 Turbo, advanced aerodynamics, and performance geared towards high-performance tracks. Though Porsche hasn’t given more details yet, there’s speculation that we might see the GT2 RS as soon as 2026 or 2027.

Besides the 911 models, Porsche is additionally growing its Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) family. The company has revealed they are considering a brand-new SUV model that will offer both gasoline and hybrid engine options. Unlike the all-electric Macan, which plans to phase out its gasoline version entirely, this new SUV will take a distinct route. This upcoming vehicle aims to uphold Porsche’s high-performance heritage while leveraging synergies from its existing lineup, potentially making its debut near the end of this decade.
