As a seasoned gamer of hip-hop history, I’ve witnessed my fair share of musical feuds that could put even the fiercest in-game rivalries to shame. The latest drama unfolding between Pras Michél and Ms. Lauryn Hill is no exception.
In simpler terms, a song criticizing another artist (possibly Pras Michél) is rumored to have been made, and in this track, he seems to accuse Ms. Lauryn Hill of cancelling the scheduled Fugees tours.
Titled “Bar Mitzfa,” the tune was allegedly obtained by AllHipHop and reportedly contains some lines targeted at Hill concerning their joint musical endeavors. In this song, Pras raps, “Don’t blame me, blame her/She created the mess/Not another dime for ‘Clef,’ I told him,” which has fueled speculation that he and Hill may not be on friendly terms, and that he might have discussed their issues with fellow Fugees member Wyclef Jean.
Although no fellow group members have publicly commented on the song, Pras indirectly criticized Hill when news about the tour’s cancellation broke. He spoke candidly to TMZ Hip Hop, stating, “I protected her reputation for 20 years by not sharing my perspective, but alas… the cat’s out of the bag now.”
Hill issued a statement concerning the termination of the US segment of the tour and attributed it to certain, unspecified media sources for “spreading a storyline that influenced ticket sales for the North American tour leg.” Nevertheless, she assured fans that they will indeed proceed with their planned UK and Europe tour dates in October.
