As a fervent admirer of Prateik Babbar’s journey in Bollywood, I find his humility and candidness truly captivating. His story of joining Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na for the sake of money, rather than passion or lineage, is a testament to his unpretentious nature. It’s heartwarming to see how he acknowledges the patience and genius of Abbas Tyrewala in helping him find his footing in the industry.
Actor Prateik Babbar, well-known in Bollywood, first appeared on screen in 2008 alongside Imran Khan and Genelia Deshmukh in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, where his character as Aditi’s brother, Amit, resonated with viewers. As we commemorate his 38th birthday today (November 28), let’s look back at the time when he revealed that he took on this cherished project primarily for financial reasons.
Last year, during an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Prateik Babbar shared insights about his first experience working on the set of his debut film, “Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na.” He remembered arriving completely unready and admitted that his primary drive came from financial reasons.
As a follower eagerly sharing their story, I’ll rephrase it this way: “I had no clue about acting in that movie! I was completely unprepared. To be honest, I wasn’t focusing on getting into character or who my co-star was, whether they were a big or small actor. For me, it was all about the money – I was going to receive 50,000 rupees as acting fees and I planned to share that with friends. That was the sole reason behind me taking up the film (laughs)!
Beyond doubt, the actor, Sikandar, openly acknowledged his gratitude towards filmmaker Abbas Tyrewala for his patience and extraordinary talent in bringing out his best. He recollected that the director rarely gave him directions but instead made him feel at ease, allowing him to perform naturally. In an honest disclosure, he admitted that he often confessed to the director that he hadn’t memorized his lines yet, and the director would simply say, ‘It’s fine. Now, go ahead and read your lines.’
It turns out that Pratik’s heritage, being the son of Raj Babbar and Smita Patel, didn’t influence his casting for the movie. In fact, three weeks before the film’s release at a party, co-producer Aamir Khan learned about his parentage and made quite a fuss about it.
As a devoted admirer, I was captivated by Aamir Khan’s acting prowess during a premier event. Moved by what I witnessed, I, Kiran Rao, encouraged him personally to give an audition for the movie Dhobi Ghat, marking it as his second film in my esteemed production.
