Prem Chopra Birthday: When veteran actor jokingly said don't reveal our age because 'all the beautiful girls run away'

As an ardent fan of Bollywood, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of admiration for the legendary Prem Chopra. His career spanning over six decades is nothing short of remarkable, and his portrayal of some of the most iconic villains in Indian cinema has left an indelible mark that continues to resonate even today.

Happy Birthday, Prem Chopra! The veteran actor, known for portraying some of Bollywood’s most infamous villains, has always received affection off-screen. When discussing iconic baddies from the golden era of cinema, Prem Chopra’s name undoubtedly stands out. As he celebrates another year, he once remarked in an interview that it is “wrong to reveal one’s age because all the beautiful girls run away.”

Despite playing some of cinema’s most detested characters, many who know him personally find him to be one of the nicest individuals they’ve encountered. Contrasting his on-screen demeanor, Chopra is a genuine charm in real life. In an interview with Indian Express on his 82nd birthday, he humorously mentioned about his birthday plans and quipped, “This is incorrect. You disclose our age, and all the lovely women flee. Life begins at 80”.

Over more than six decades, Chopra has become one of the most indelible antagonists in Indian cinema, leaving a lasting impression. His screen character, portraying a sly, merciless villain, frequently contrasted sharply with his genuine charm and good manners off-screen, endearing him not only to fellow professionals but also to fans.

Chopra’s career gained momentum with movies like Upkar (1967) and Do Raaste (1969), but it was his intimidating performances in films such as Kati Patang (1970), Bobby (1973), and Kala Sona (1975) that solidified his reputation as the epitome of a villain. The phrase “Prem naam hai mera, Prem Chopra” from Bobby is one of the most iconic lines in Bollywood cinema history that he delivered.

Previously, Chopra appeared in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s movie titled Animal. In a chat with India Today, Chopra shared his views on Ranbir Kapoor’s acting in that film and why he believes Kapoor would be perfect for playing him in a biopic. Chopra spoke highly of Kapoor’s talent, stating that his performance in Animal left a strong impression on him. In Chopra’s opinion, given Kapoor’s current status as a superstar, he seems ideally suited to play the role of Prem Chopra in a biographical film.

At the age of 88, Prem Chopra remains revered as a legendary figure, whose performances have made an unforgettable impact on the Indian film industry.
