As a die-hard fan of Meera Chopra, I find her raw honesty and unapologetic approach to be nothing short of inspiring! Her journey through Bollywood, as an ‘outsider’, has been filled with challenges that she’s tackled head-on, speaking truth to power.
Actress Meera Chopra first appeared in Bollywood films in 2016 with the movie “1920 London,” directed by Vikram Bhatt, alongside Sharman Joshi. To clarify, Priyanka Chopra, Parineeti Chopra, and Mannara Chopra are Meera’s cousins on her father’s side. Meera herself refers to herself as an outsider in the industry and has described Bollywood as a “cult.” She also stated that most star kids (children of established actors) are just average, with Alia Bhatt being an exception.
In a new interview with Hitflik, Meera Chopra opened up about how she faced challenges in the Hindi film industry during the early days of her career. She recalled being asked to make her connections and attend parties to improve her network.
In her words, Bollywood can be seen as an industry where having connections matters significantly. She explained that as an actress, it’s crucial to be associated with a group that helps artists land film roles. Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of knowing the “right people” since it simplifies the process of securing opportunities for actors, as it takes hard work and patience to establish one’s value in this competitive field.
During the same interview, Meera Chopra shared her views on the influence of star children in Bollywood. She added that with a few exceptions like Alia Bhatt, most star kids find themselves working in the industry because they grow up immersed within it.
At present, many newcomers in the entertainment field are children of well-known personalities, and unfortunately, most of them lack exceptional talent. Alia Bhatt is one exception I can think of, as she demonstrates a level of skill commensurate with her work. However, it seems few others possess such ability. The reason they get these roles is often because they come from this industry. Would people be willing to take a chance on an outsider after four unsuccessful films? Apparently not. This was Meera’s observation.
Additionally, Meera Chopra explained that her path in Bollywood encountered challenges due to her lack of focus on networking. She noted that if she had been more connected within the industry, it might have eased her career progression. The actress asserted that without exceptional talent, she still could have appeared in over 20 films.
In her professional career, Meera Chopra has been seen in various projects. These include the 2014 film “Gang of Ghosts,” directed by Satish Kaushik, as well as “Section 375” (2019) and an upcoming project titled “Safed” in 2023. Notably, she has predominantly focused her acting work on the Telugu and Tamil film industries.
