Pro-Luigi Mangione Musical Selling Out in San Francisco

Luigi Mangione became an overnight sensation for too many progressives.

He didn’t win an election or embarrass a GOP senator.

It’s said that Mangione apparently murdered a healthcare CEO in a ruthless manner. This act seemingly transformed him into a modern-day legend. His chiseled physique also contributed to this image.

Currently, a stage production in San Francisco is delving deeper into the tale of Mangione, and locals are eagerly flocking to it. This engaging musical production goes by the name, naturally, “Luigi: The Musical.” For more information, head over to SF Gate.

Under the guidance of director Nova Bradford, the stage production is situated within the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. This year, it housed three notable figures simultaneously: rapper Sean Combs (portrayed by Janée Lucas), crypto tycoon Sam Bankman-Fried (André Margatini), and internet’s most talked-about murder suspect, Luigi Mangione (Jonny Stein). Due to consistent sellouts, the musical has expanded its performance schedule to 10 shows. During my visit, many individuals were left standing against the walls once all seats had been taken.

It’s a hit!

Although the critic acknowledges that the show appears to strongly support Mangione, they don’t completely approve of its use of violence. Whew! (A more casual and easy-to-understand rephrasing.)

In this show, not every question gets answered, but that’s alright because the complex ethical dilemmas make it even more enjoyable.

Indeed, it remains unclear whether we should support someone accused of taking a life as a father and a husband, given that they appear to be just a minor piece in a clearly flawed healthcare system.

On different occasions, pop culture progressives have shown admiration towards Mangione. For instance, the host of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” admitted that some of his show’s staff were enamored with Mangione shortly after his arrest. Similarly, the audience of “The Daily Show” showed sympathy for Mangione, which surprised even the left-leaning host at the time.

Comedian Bill Burr often shouts “Free Luigi,” but it’s not certain whether this is just a joke or if it holds a deeper significance. Throughout his career, Burr has walked a fine line between conservative and liberal humor. Lately, he seems to be particularly targeting progressive audiences.
