- Explore the Ruins of Erangel in the latest PUBG Mobile update
- The Play for Green Campaign challenges players to explore a climate change-ridden version of the map
- There’s also new charitable initiatives and a contest for World of Wonder maps!
As a seasoned gamer with a heart for environmental conservation, I find myself utterly captivated by the latest PUBG Mobile update. The Play for Green campaign not only offers a fresh twist to the classic battle royale genre but also serves as a powerful platform for raising awareness about climate change.
The popular battle royale game PUBG Mobile plans to roll out a fresh batch of maps as part of its efforts to promote awareness about global warming and climate change. This campaign, titled “Play for Green,” aligns with the Green Game Jam initiative called “Playing for the Planet.” In this campaign, players’ in-game movements will translate into genuine backing for environmental charities through the “Run for Green” event. Additionally, participating players will be granted special digital rewards as incentives.
In the updated versions of Erangel’s Ruins, you’ll find two distinct maps: one called Sandstorm and another Exploration. The Sandstorm map follows the traditional battle royale format where you gather crucial medical supplies while competing against other players. Meanwhile, the Exploration map offers an immersive experience, allowing you to uncover the impact of climate change on this once lush battleground that has transformed into a barren wasteland over time.
Not only is the main game affected, but you’ll also notice updates in World of Wonder with the introduction of rare items such as California Redwood and Giant Baobab trees. Furthermore, the World Of Wonder Green Creative Contest invites players to create their own maps using these new items, along with the ruins of Erangel templates as a base. The best entries will be rewarded with top prizes.
Gunning for green
As a gamer, I find it intriguing that a game focused on combat like PUBG Mobile is used to spark conversations about climate change. It just goes to show the immense reach this game has achieved, even more so since its main rival, Fortnite, has only recently expanded onto mobile platforms.
Besides the fresh map, PUBG Mobile is planning additional engagements too. They’ll host challenges on their social media platforms and introduce a new area called Preservation Garden for players’ homes which showcases endangered tree species.
