Punisher OG Thomas Jane Responds To Rumors That He Was Up For Deadpool And Reveals What He Thinks About Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle

As a seasoned gamer and long-time Marvel fan, I must admit that the anticipation for the rumored cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine was palpable. The thrill wasn’t just in recognizing familiar faces, but in finding out who would grace our screens from the vast universe of Marvel characters.

As a die-hard fan, I’ve got to admit, the buzz about potential cameos in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine was nearly deafening! It seemed almost impossible for all those whispers to hold water, yet we knew some would inevitably prove true. What made the movie magic, though, wasn’t just seeing familiar Marvel characters grace our screens again, but rather the delightful shock of discovering exactly which ones made an appearance.

Instead of seeing Taylor Swift play Dazzler or Daniel Radcliffe as a different version of Wolverine, we got Channing Tatum as Gambit and had to do without those characters. Some people might have been excited about certain guest star speculations, but were ultimately let down, including fans who enjoyed earlier Punisher films.

Did Thomas Jane’s Punisher Almost Appear In Deadpool and Wolverine?

Three distinct performers have portrayed The Punisher’s character, Frank Castle, prior to Jon Bernthal joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Thomas Jane being one of the actors who had been speculated to be part of the Deadpool & Wolverine project. However, this collaboration did not materialize, and it wasn’t due to Jane declining the opportunity. Recently, when The Direct inquired about his potential involvement in the movie, Jane merely responded…

Nope.

In the recent collaboration between Deadpool and Wolverine, The Russian from Cassandra Nova’s evil squad made an appearance, but unfortunately, there was no cameo by The Punisher to eliminate him. Being a devoted admirer of Thomas Jane’s portrayal in The Punisher movie, I found it slightly disappointing that he didn’t show up, as I believe his character deserves more recognition.

It’s not surprising that Jane wasn’t invited, considering Halle Berry herself hasn’t been asked to reprise her role as Storm either, despite speculation suggesting it would be more plausible.

What Does Thomas Jane Think About Jon Bernthal’s Punisher

If given the opportunity, it’s uncertain if Thomas Jane would reprise his role as Frank Castle (The Punisher). He hasn’t explicitly stated whether he would or not, but based on his comments, it seems that he may not have a strong inclination to return to the character. He described his previous performance as quite challenging, and he believes Jon Bernthal, the current actor portraying The Punisher, is exceptionally well-suited for the role. Thus, in his opinion, Marvel doesn’t require him to revisit this character. Jane elaborated…

I find “The Punisher” portrayed by Jon Bernthal particularly appealing. To be honest, there was a slight disconnect for me since Frank Castle is meant to be Italian-American and I’m not. As an Irish-American, I had to adjust my appearance and adopt a new character, but Bernthal carries it off exceptionally well. Therefore, I believe they should continue with him in the role.

I must admit, I’m quite fond of Thomas Jane’s version of The Punisher. However, it’s hard to deny that Jon Bernthal has truly excelled in the role, and he’s poised to reprise his part in the “Daredevil: Born Again” cast. With this in mind, it seems unnecessary for the MCU to introduce another Frank Castle.
