- Budget-friendly controller for mobile, switch and PC
- Decent battery life
- Companion App to help customize some features
Controllers’ price range spans quite a broad spectrum. You’ll find some that are rather costly, others more moderately priced, and some that are budget-friendly enough for almost anyone. The PXN P5 is an economical controller that can be wirelessly connected to your mobile device, Nintendo Switch, or PC using a receiver.
PXN P5 Looks
Upon opening the PXN P5, I was immediately struck by how surprisingly light the controller is. The textured grips, reminiscent of an Xbox Controller, provide a familiar feel, while the button arrangement is similar. It might not win any beauty contests or offer the smoothest button presses, but it gets the job done effectively.
At the rear of the controller, you’ll find two trigger-style switches for gear and two programming buttons, in addition to a switch that allows you to select what device the controller connects to. These buttons have a smooth, easy press, making them comfortable to use, especially during prolonged usage.
PXN P5 Battery Life
I often overlook charging my devices, so a long battery life is crucial for me. The PXN P5 lacks fancy indicators that might drain power quicker. Instead, it charges via a USB-C cable that comes with it. Interestingly, unlike some other devices, it doesn’t light up to indicate charging, which I found surprising. It takes approximately 2 to 3 hours to fully charge the controller, and then it can last up to 20 hours, which is quite impressive, considering its price point.
Nexus app
If you are looking to further customize your PXN P5 Experience, there is a Nexus App that you can connect to your device, which allows you to map the back buttons and change things like the stick dead zones. It’s useful if you want it, but you can also never use it, and still have a good controller for everyday play.
For a budget controller, the PXN P5 is a good option. It works, has a strong battery life, and can easily re-connect to your mobile device. There isn’t a lot of flash to the controller or customization options, but that’s often not something you need in a budget controller!
I really hope setting it up the first time would be more straightforward, as figuring out how long to press the buttons requires a look at the manual. However, after you get the hang of it, everything will work smoothly.
