Quiet on Set Producers, Prime Video Team for Lisa Frank Docuseries

As a child of the ’90s, Lisa Frank was more than just a brand – it was a symbol of my youth, a vibrant burst of color and whimsy that adorned our school supplies and filled our dreams with fantastical creatures and magical landscapes. The announcement of Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming docuseries, “Glitter and Greed: The Lisa Frank Story”, has me both excited and apprehensive.

If you spent your childhood in the ’90s, it’s likely you’re acquainted with the Lisa Frank label or have come across it elsewhere. Once ubiquitous, Lisa Frank seemed to vanish unexpectedly without much fuss. For those curious about the fate of the vibrant children’s brand, there’s good news: a documentary series is on its way. Amazon Prime Video has revealed Glitter and Greed: The Lisa Frank Story, a four-episode series delving into the brand’s past.

According to Prime Video, the show features over 20 conversations with Lisa Frank enthusiasts and reporters, aiming to provide a clearer understanding of the issues that led to the downfall of the powerhouse.

“Lisa Frank’s vibrant brand brings back memories and nostalgia for numerous students, but there was a lot more going on behind the scenes, according to Lauren Anderson, head of Brand and Content Innovation at Amazon MGM Studios,” said. “Thanks to Maxine Productions, Sony Pictures Television, and Alysia Russo – who initially supported this series – viewers will uncover the truth hidden beneath the neon colors.”

Maxine Productions might be recognized by viewers as the team responsible for the series “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV“. This program delved into allegations against producer Dan Sneider, who worked with Nickelodeon during its peak in the ’90s, concerning his inappropriate and abusive behavior. Notably, Drake Bell, a star from “Drake and Josh“, openly discussed being sexually abused by dialogue coach Brian Peck in this series. However, Dan Schnieder, another former Nickelodeon producer, has denied all allegations and even filed a lawsuit against the production team. Amazon hints at potential further revelations behind the scenes at Lisa Frank that could echo similar shocking disclosures in the upcoming documentary.

“Just like many others, I had a strong affection for Lisa Frank items as a child, enjoying the touch of wonder, enchantment, and imagination they added to our everyday lives,” expressed Mary Robertson, the founder and president of Maxine Productions. “I feel privileged to collaborate with our outstanding director Arianna LaPenne, showrunner Lisa Kalikow, Amazon Prime Video, Sony Pictures Television Nonfiction, and my fellow team members at Maxine Productions in telling this amazing true tale. This story could potentially redefine your perspective on rainbows and unicorns forever.”
