Rachel Brosnahan discusses her process for portraying Lois Lane in the forthcoming Superman film directed by James Gunn.
At the Critics Choice Awards on Friday, the actress shared with The Hollywood Reporter that she hasn’t had conversations with other actresses who played the famous DC character before her, like Kate Bosworth, Teri Hatcher, or Erica Durance. However, she has chatted extensively with numerous journalists instead.
Brosnahan stated that she was deeply engrossed in the journalism project. She consulted with several journalists, allowing her to understand the perspective of a contemporary reporter.”
This version maintains the original’s meaning but uses simpler, more conversational language.
She went on to say, “I find it fascinating how this character evolved from her initial concept into a representation of a contemporary, tenacious, somewhat chaotic, yet dedicated journalist of that era. I believe I heavily drew inspiration from the few journalists I interacted with to construct her personality.
The movie titled Superman, featuring David Corenswet as the lead character, explores the superhero’s journey in reconciling his heritage with his human upbringing. This film aims to kickstart the new DC cinematic universe from Gunn and Peter Safran. Additionally, it boasts an impressive cast including Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, and Milly Alcock.
Brosnahan added that the movie, which wrapped filming last summer, “was such a joy to work on.”
As a die-hard fan myself, I must say, the anticipation James Saffron from DC has harbored for years about creating a Superman movie is simply contagious. Being a part of someone else’s dream fulfillment like that brings an entirely unique vibe to the set each day. Plus, David being such a Superman enthusiast made it even more exciting! It’s been truly inspiring to witness the positive energy we’ve all shared on set.
In her conversation with THR, Brosnahan mentioned that she often discusses the possibility of collaborating with The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s creator Amy Sherman-Palladino again whenever they meet, and stated that they are actively generating ideas together.
Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
