30 years ago, Rakesh Roshan made an unprecedented move by casting Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan as brothers Karan Arjun for the first time on film. The movie was a massive success, becoming one of the highest-grossing films of the year, and it enjoyed a remarkable 50-week run in 76 cinemas. Even in its 75th week, the film could still be seen playing in 26 different cinemas.

The movie additionally introduced memorable characters to Indian cinema, such as Rakhee Gulzar portraying Durga Singh and the imposing antagonist Thakur Durjan Singh, played by Amrish Puri. In addition, Karan Arjun showcases Kajol as Sonia Saxena and Mamta Kulkarni as Bindiya.
