Oh boy, as a lifelong fan of epic tales and cinematic masterpieces, I can hardly contain my excitement! With Ranbir Kapoor already on board to play Lord Rama, and now Sunny Deol stepping into the legendary role of Lord Hanuman, this Ramayana adaptation is shaping up to be nothing short of a spectacle.
A day following Ranbir Kapoor’s revelation about his involvement in the Ramayana project, Sunny Deol has further stoked anticipation by disclosing intriguing information regarding Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming directorial venture. He shared that this film is being developed on a scale comparable to global productions such as Avatar and Planet of the Apes.
Sunny Deol recently participated in the third Indian Express’ SCREEN Live event held in Mumbai, where he discussed various topics. Among them, he revealed intriguing insights about the upcoming film featuring Ranbir Kapoor, stating that “The Ramayana project is extensive as they aim to create it along the lines of films like Avatar and Planet of the Apes. Many of the technicians involved in those productions are contributing to it. The scriptwriter and director have a clear vision for its development and how the characters should be portrayed.
Additionally, he mentioned that the viewers would encounter extraordinary effects so convincing that they might think these events actually took place, instead of perceiving them as special effects. He confidently stated that the movie would be exceptional, and everyone would find it delightful.
Significantly, we previously alerted you this year that Sunny Deol has been chosen for the role of Lord Hanuman in the upcoming film. A reliable source close to the production revealed that they were convinced that following Dara Singh, Sunny Deol would become synonymous with Lord Hanuman in contemporary times.
More recently, we’ve shared that the actor from Lahore 1947 has plans to begin filming under the direction of Nitesh Tiwari, following the completion of his projects on Border 2.
Just like Ranbir Kapoor, Sunny Deol has set aside numerous days for Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra to film his role in the Ramayana Series. It’s been disclosed that around mid-2025, Tiwari and his team aim to shoot sequences where Ranbir Kapoor will be seen alongside Yash, followed by Sunny Deol.
During his visit to the Red Sea Film Festival, Ranbir expressed that playing the character of Lord Rama in the upcoming mythological drama is a dream come true for him. Moreover, he shared that he has wrapped up shooting for the first part and is eager to start working on the second part shortly.
Ramayana’s first and second part will be released on Diwali 2026 and Diwali 2027 respectively.
