Ramayana: Ranbir Kapoor-led film’s producer aims to take it on global level like Oppenheimer, Forrest Gump; ‘I believe…’

One anticipated movie in Bollywood that has generated much excitement is Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming mythological masterpiece, Ramayana. A sizable budget has been allocated for its production to create a visually stunning experience. Additionally, the film’s producer, Namit Malhotra, harbors ambitions to make it not just a Bollywood hit but also a global sensation, on par with films like Oppenheimer and Forrest Gump.

In a recent discussion with Hindustan Times, the producer of Ramayana and head of VFX studio DNEG expressed his intentions. He aims not only to bring pride to India but also to ignite global interest in Indian storytelling by taking it to an international level through the much-anticipated film featuring Ranbir Kapoor.

Malhotra expressed his intention to unite the world in cinema appreciation by saying, “I don’t mean we don’t enjoy Hollywood films or feel moved by characters like Oppenheimer or Forrest Gump. In fact, their stories resonate universally. I believe this project offers a similar universal appeal, and I feel fortunate to be involved. I hope I can do it justice.

It’s worth mentioning that Namit has won seven Oscars for Best Visual Effects, with notable films like Interstellar and Dune among his work. When asked if Ramayana could match this achievement in Indian cinema, he expressed confidence in its potential. Yet, he also recognized the significant duty they have to effectively present it on a global scale.

Previously, several adaptations of the movie have been produced, including the recent one titled “Adipurush”. Unfortunately, it didn’t fare well in terms of box office success. In light of this, the producer expressed that his team recognizes the importance of telling the story accurately and effectively.

He emphasized the importance of being extra meticulous and mindful in our actions, ensuring they are handled with great diligence and delicacy. This is because such chances don’t often present themselves repeatedly, and this appears to be the ideal time for India.

Under the direction of Nitesh Tiwari, the cast for Ramayana includes Sai Pallavi, Yash, Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey, Arun Govil, and others in pivotal roles. The movie will be released in two parts, with the first part coming out during Diwali 2026, and the second part following a year later on Diwali 2027.
