‘Rambo: First Blood’ Has Almost 100% Score From Expert for Sylvester Stallone’s Wilderness Skills

First Blood, more commonly recognized as Rambo nowadays, demonstrated that Sylvester Stallone had a wealth of talent for Hollywood, even after his debut as Rocky Balboa. Despite the fluctuations in both series over time, the influence of Sylvester’s early films remains strong. A Special Ops specialist claims that First Blood is not merely an excellent film, but it also provides a fairly accurate portrayal of the tormented character, John Rambo.

1982 saw the debut of First Blood, a film that immediately captured audiences’ hearts, yet differed significantly from its more action-packed sequels within the Rambo series. As shared by former Special Ops member Bob Kellar in an interview with Insider, he was deeply inspired by this movie as a child and found the portrayal of Rambo’s skills remarkably accurate to real-life situations. In his own words:

In a nutshell, you’ve often dreamt of emulating Rambo, just like many other kids did. The movie “Rambo First Blood” showcases him as a Special Forces soldier from Vietnam. All the details would be accurate, given his background as a Special Forces member and his expertise in the woods, including booby trap awareness and survival tactics. However, you might only get one class on this topic. While some individuals train continuously on such skills, John Rambo had extensive experience with them due to his years spent in Vietnam. Essentially, he’s an expert at living in the wilderness, which makes this portrayal realistic and authentic.

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I must say, in this scenario, he seems to shun any form of conflict. Yet, circumstances force him into action, showcasing his exceptional talents. Many Special Forces veterans find themselves continuing to use these skills in civilian life, either joining other organizations or starting their own businesses. It’s a case of missing the thrill for some, and for others, it’s simply what they know best. If you join the military at 17, it becomes a part of who you are.

Now, while the scenes might seem a tad unrealistic, I assure you, the grit and determination portrayed by this character in handling situations is as legitimate as it gets. I’d rate it a 9.5 out of 10, almost a perfect 10.

As a dedicated film enthusiast, I must say that when it comes to action films today, even those within the same franchise, the original “First Blood” stands out as a starkly raw and brutal masterpiece. Unlike its successors, this movie delves deep into the darker aspects of its protagonist, making it a far more compelling watch. This depth is likely why “First Blood” continues to garner high praise from both audiences and critics, with an impressive 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which undeniably contributes to its lasting appeal.

Initially, the film “First Blood” earned $125 million globally at the box office. Three years later, “Rambo: First Blood – Part II” surpassed this significantly, raking in an impressive $300 million – a record for the series. The foundation was set in “First Blood” for Rambo’s story to span multiple decades, and it seems his tale may never be surpassed. Interestingly, the 2019 film “Rambo: Last Blood” came close to equaling its audience score (81%), but critics considered it the weakest in the series, assigning it a low 26% on the Tomatometer.
