Ranbir Kapoor reveals why grandfather Raj Kapoor's holi parties were ‘scary’, says; ‘sab kaale neele peele hote the…’

As a passionate admirer of the illustrious Kapoor dynasty and their indelible contributions to Bollywood, I find myself captivated by Ranbir Kapoor’s heartfelt recollections of his grandfather Raj Kapoor’s iconic Holi parties at RK Studios. The vibrant, chaotic energy that once enveloped those hallowed grounds must have been a sight to behold!

The Kapoor clan has been a significant fixture within Bollywood for many years, with Raj Kapoor known for hosting grand events that brought everyone together. Today, Ranbir Kapoor, Raj’s grandson, reminisced about his early days surrounded by the lively and bustling atmosphere of Holi parties at RK Studios, where he confessed he initially felt apprehensive due to its vibrant and chaotic nature.

Recently, Ranbir Kapoor attended the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), an occasion with particular importance because it paid homage to the esteemed actor-director Raj Kapoor before his centenary on December 14, 2024. At this event, Kapoor engaged in a chat with renowned director Rahul Rawail and reminisced about the lavish Holi celebrations held at RK Studios, orchestrated by his grandfather.

Due to Raj Kapoor’s prominent position in the entertainment world, many figures from the show business community would join him to celebrate the festival of colors. Looking back at these childhood experiences, Ranbir confessed that he initially found the sight of people covered in colors quite intimidating as a young child.

He mentioned that since he was quite young, the atmosphere was extremely frightening to him. Everyone seemed to be soaked in shades of black and various other colors; it appeared as though everyone was being loaded onto similar trucks.

He pointed at Rawail and mentioned, “You were right about that; sab kaale neele peele hote the (Everyone used to be drained in different colors). It used to be a day of celebration.”

Kapoor pointed out that these events stood out due to their inclusivity; everyone, from A-list celebrities such as Amitabh Bachchan and Nargis, to behind-the-scenes personnel like production staff and crew members, were all part of the celebrations.

Ultimately, director Rahul disclosed that the crowd swelled to such an extent that it grew challenging to control, as anyone could attend these gatherings. Consequently, due to the chaos, Raj Kapoor ultimately ceased organizing these events.

On the professional side, Ranbir Kapoor recently appeared in the hit movie “Animal” directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, sharing the screen with Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Triptii Dimri, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol. Coming up next for him is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Love and War,” where he will act alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. Moreover, there’s also the upcoming project “Ramayana” directed by Nitesh Tiwari, with Sai Pallavi as his co-star.
