As an ardent follower of Hindi cinema, I have to say that Randeep Hooda is undeniably one of the most intriguing and versatile actors we have today. His journey from Monsoon Wedding to Swatantrya Veer Savarkar is a testament to his dedication and talent.
Randeep Hooda, who first appeared in Bollywood through Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding back in 2001, is one of the gifted actors within Hindi cinema. Recognized for his roles in films like Highway and Sarbjit (among others), the actor recently made headlines with his directorial debut, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar earlier this year. More recently, Randeep Hooda stated that Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor don’t possess the abilities he does and expressed himself as not being skilled in dance.
At the India Today Mind Rocks 2024 Youth Summit on Saturday, Randeep Hooda emphasized his preference for method acting over dancing. He explained that he enjoys transformative acting, where one immerses oneself in understanding a character’s authenticity.
In conversation about portraying police roles in films, the actor emphasized that unlike some characters who merely wear a uniform, he has played more nuanced cop roles. Furthermore, Randeep made it clear that he doesn’t aim to rival actors like Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor, and Tiger Shroff in dance abilities. He stated that these stars excel in areas he cannot reach, and conversely, his screen presence is unique as he lacks their dancing skills. In simpler terms, Randeep believes he can’t match their dance moves and they can’t replicate what he brings to the screen as a performer.
He stated that being cops is just a part of who they are as people, and it’s their unique qualities that set them apart. Since he wasn’t skilled at dancing, he chose to excel in something else. He questioned why one should try to compete with talented dancers like Hrithik, Shahid, and Tiger, given their exceptional dance abilities. Instead, he suggested finding one’s unique selling point.
At the same gathering, Randeep Hooda also shared insights about his Bollywood journey, mentioning that he’s been involved in both significant and enjoyable movies throughout his career. He further noted that filmmakers can’t instruct their viewers through cinema; instead, they should entertain while educating, as “people don’t appreciate sermons”. Randeep Hooda from the Swatantrya Veer Savarkar movie went on to say that entertainment is the sole thing audiences remember after watching a film.
In the movie “Highway,” which came out in 2014 and was directed by Imtiaz Ali, it was Randeep Hooda who played the lead role alongside Alia Bhatt. This performance of his was appreciated by many viewers. Other notable films that feature Randeep Hooda include “Once Upon a Time In Mumbaai,” “Murder 3,” “Kick,” and “Sultan.
