As a seasoned collector of rare and exotic automobiles with a penchant for bespoke luxury, my heart skipped a beat upon learning about the upcoming auction of the 2008 Bentley Continental “Flying Star” by Touring Superleggera. With a life filled with memories behind the wheel of some truly remarkable machines, this particular model stands out as a unique gem in my book.
The exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into this car is simply astounding, from the elongated doors and custom rear wings to the sumptuous Saffron leather interior and walnut veneer trim. The fact that it’s one of only 19 examples ever produced, with mere 7,467 kilometers on the odometer, adds an undeniable allure to its already captivating presence.
Having had the pleasure of owning several classic and modern Bentleys in my time, I can appreciate the harmonious blend of heritage craftsmanship and modern engineering that this “Flying Star” represents. The twin-turbocharged W-12 engine, producing a robust 552 hp, is sure to provide an exhilarating driving experience, while the bespoke luggage set adds an extra touch of elegance for those luxurious weekend getaways.
With bidding set to open on February 4th during RM Sotheby’s upcoming Paris Sale, I find myself eagerly anticipating the final hammer price for this extraordinary automobile. If my wallet allows, I may just have to place a bid and add another masterpiece to my ever-growing collection – though I must admit, the thought of explaining to my wife that yet another exotic car has found its way into our garage is already giving me palpitations!
Joke: You know you’re a classic car collector when your garage becomes more valuable than your house… and your wife asks, “Honey, how many cars do we really need?” My response, “Well, darling, I was thinking of converting the pool into a petrol station!
Amongst only 19 pieces ever made of the 2008 Bentley Continental “Flying Star,” customized by Italian coachbuilder Touring Superleggera, will soon be available for bidding through RM Sotheby’s. This unique shooting brake boasts an exceptional mileage of 7,467 kilometers (approximately 4,640 miles), making it scarcely driven. The exquisite craftsmanship of this rarity is accentuated by the powerhouse performance of Bentley’s twin-turbocharged W-12 engine, outputting a robust 552 horsepower.
Under the direction of The Curated Collection, the makeover started with a Continental GTC convertible procured from Bentley Belgium in 2008. Externally, it boasts a metallic grey hue, while the interior is adorned in Saffron leather, accented by walnut veneer trim. Premium touches include a two-tone steering wheel, contrast stitching, plush carpeting, and front seats equipped with lumbar massage functionality.
In 2009, the modification that added $357,574 USD was finished. Touring Superleggera made changes such as extended doors, unique rear wings, and distinctive tail lights for this model, creating a shooting brake design consistent with Bentley’s aesthetic. Furthermore, the car comes with a personalized luggage set, enhancing its uniqueness.
The “Flying Star” has been skillfully improved by Clark & Carter Restorations, showcasing a unique blend of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary engineering. On February 4, bidding for this vehicle will commence at RM Sotheby’s Paris Sale, with expectations setting the bar high at $420,000 USD.
