As a seasoned film enthusiast who has seen his fair share of adaptations, I can confidently say that the upcoming third season of “Reacher” on Prime Video is shaping up to be something truly special. Having had the privilege of witnessing Alan Ritchson‘s transformation into Jack Reacher, I can attest to the fact that he embodies the character in a way that Tom Cruise could only dream of.
On February 20, 2025, “Reacher” will be returning to Prime Video, and fans are already excitedly anticipating what they’re calling the “best season” yet. It’s hard to find anything certain in the world of streaming, but it’s safe to say that “Reacher” is poised to continue its success as a major hit for Amazon’s platform. Despite some lower review scores in Season 2, the show quickly became one of the most popular series of the year within days. We can hardly wait to see what they’ll do this time around!
In Ritchson’s opinion, there’s absolutely no room for criticism when it comes to the quality of their work this season – he finds it flawless without a single thing he could improve upon. Normally, he admits to having minor suggestions, but for Season 3, he is completely satisfied and has nothing to nitpick. Speaking at CCXP, Ritchson expressed his appreciation for the season.
The situations become increasingly perilous. To be clear, I wouldn’t mislead you – there have been minor issues in each season that made me think, ‘We could have done this better.’ However, Season 3 surpasses all our previous work. From start to finish, it’s an adrenaline rush, a peak television experience, and I can hardly wait for everyone to see it. […] I don’t want to spoil it for you. In ‘Persuader,’ Reacher finds himself undercover and has some tough tasks ahead, both to survive and find who he’s searching for. The circumstances grow quite risky. Yet, he encounters his toughest adversary yet in Paulie. Paulie is someone who makes Reacher seem almost insignificant.
Reacher’s History on Screen
In 1997, Lee Child’s character Jack Reacher first appeared in the novel “The Killing Floor“. Since then, he has been featured in 27 novels. In 2012, Tom Cruise portrayed him on screen for the first time, which became a popular topic of humor among fans. The idea of Cruise playing the massive mercenary seemed amusing to many, and although the movie brought in decent box office earnings, its reviews were far from impressive.
In “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back”, Cruise made a second appearance, yet despite initial plans for more sequels prior to its premiere, mediocre box office earnings and poor critical reception suggested that this might be the end of Reacher’s adventures. It appeared as though the numerous untold stories would remain confined to the written page.
In the year 2022, Alan Ritchson entered the series adaptation of “The Killing Floor” and captured the character perfectly. The memory of Cruise’s films quickly faded away, and for most viewers, Ritchson became, and would always be, Jack Reacher. Despite some criticism in Season 1 about unoriginal dialogue and slow pace in Season 2, anticipation for the new season remains high.
Previously announced, Amazon has given the go-ahead for Season 4 and rumors hint at additional spinoffs being developed, before new episodes air. This demonstrates a similar long-term dedication akin to shows such as “The Rings of Power” and “The Wheel of Time.” Despite “Reacher” having an episodic structure where each season can conclude without a cliffhanger, it appears that the run of Ritchson’s portrayal as Jack Reacher may not be ending anytime in the near future.
