Reacher Star Olivier Richters: No Visual Tricks Needed for Paulie’s Epic Size in Season 3

As a movie enthusiast, learning that Dutch bodybuilder Olivier Richters would take on the role of Paulie in Reacher Season 3 left me thrilled. After all, Paulie, as portrayed in the book Persuader, is an imposing figure, even larger than Reacher himself. And if there’s one thing I know, it’s that Richters certainly lives up to this description on screen, standing tall among his fellow actors.

Curiosity piqued, I wondered if they employed any visual tricks to make him appear even more colossal, but the man himself jokingly assured me that no such wizardry was used. Simply put, Olivier Richters’ towering presence speaks for itself!

In the series Reacher, it’s noticeable that visual techniques and strategic camera placement are employed to make Alan Ritchson appear even more imposing than his actual size. Yet, when I inquired about similar tactics for Paulie with Olivier Richters, he responded with a laugh, “No.” Similarly, co-star Brian Tee, who portrays this season’s antagonist Xavier Quinn, joked: “Nope” or “Nothing of the sort.

They didn’t need to.

It’s also logical, indeed. Olivier Richters stands an impressive 7 feet and 2 inches tall. For comparison, Alan Ritchson measures 6 feet and 3 inches. Therefore, without any effort, the bodybuilder is significantly taller than Alan Ritchson, who stars in the Reacher series.

Therefore, no visual deceptions were needed, and the actor portraying Paulie found it as a flattering gesture, expressing this sentiment to me:

I didn’t have anything in my shoes, and it was mentioned that I might not realize it, but apparently Alan is taller than everyone else in all seasons except for this one, which was meant as a compliment to me. So, no surprises here – what you see is exactly who I am.

This version aims to maintain the original meaning while making the text more natural and easy to read.

As a devoted fan, I’d like to point out that while Alan Ritchson maintains an impressively low body fat percentage, he isn’t toweringly huge. After all, many people stand at six feet tall. Occasionally, in the portrayal of Reacher, creative use of camera angles and framing techniques are employed to emphasize his stature even more than reality.

It wasn’t essential for Richters, and as all three actors I spoke with chuckled, Anthony Michael Hall demonstrated this by stating: “It wasn’t required.

1. I recall taking aim at the grand house, causing Olivier to take cover beneath the entrance door. I exclaimed, ‘This fellow carries an impressive aura.’ Nevertheless, it turned out to be quite an unforgettable adventure for everyone involved.

(or)

2. I distinctly remember firing towards the manor, making Olivier hide under the front doorway. I expressed, ‘He radiates such a powerful presence.’ Yet, it proved to be an exhilarating encounter for us all.

When I began streaming the season of Reacher scheduled for 2025 on Amazon Prime, a thought reminiscent of mine arose. Paulie’s impressive and crucial role in the series caught my attention, as he posed one of the toughest physical challenges for the title character. Remarkably, Richters seamlessly stepped into this role, largely due to his naturally imposing physique.

As he hilariously said, no visual tricks were needed because:

7’ 2” is enough; I don’t want to be 7’3”.

Here’s another way of putting it: Isn’t it just right? No need to exaggerate his on-screen size since he’s already quite imposing. Interestingly, this only enhances the impact of his performance in the series, Reacher.

Currently, I’m even more eager to witness the face-off between Olivier Richters and Alan Ritchson as Reacher, since we can trust that with Paulie, there are no hidden tricks or deceptions; what we observe is authentic, requiring no additional camera adjustments.
