As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for horror movies, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming sequel to “Ready or Not”. Having grown up watching Samara Weaving grace our screens and Radio Silence weave their magic in various productions, this reunion is like a dream come true. The original movie was a masterful blend of suspense, humor, and social commentary that left me on the edge of my seat.
Samara Weaving and Radio Silence are walking down the aisle one more time.
The team consisting of actors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Villella, who have previously worked together, are coming back to produce Ready or Not 2, the sequel to their successful 2019 dark comedy horror film, for Searchlight Pictures.
The movie, penned by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy, narrates a story where the protagonist, portrayed by Weaving, discovers a peculiar tradition of her newly wed family: They play a puzzle card game on their wedding night, and whoever draws the Hide and Seek card must participate in a deadly game. This ritual is believed to be a part of an ancient pact with the devil that the family has upheld.
Among the cast were Adam Brody, Henry Czerny and Andie MacDowell.
Regardless of Being Prepared or Not, this movie, produced with a budget of just $6 million, managed to earn more than $28 million within the domestic market, marking it as Searchlight’s widest release at that time. Critics highly appreciated its knack for delivering suspense and gore, along with its insightful social commentary. Its popularity and financial success have only grown stronger in the home entertainment sector.
Tripp Vinson, Bradley J. Fischer, William Sherak, and James Vanderbilt will once again take on the role of producers. Meanwhile, Villella and Tara Farney have been appointed as executive producers.
No take or plot details were given but Busick and Murphy are returning to write, as well.
The news about the upcoming sequel reached us by the end of the day, coincidentally on the very same evening that Searchlight hosted a premiere of the film at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. It was anticipated that Weaving and Radio Silence would be present for a post-screening question-and-answer session.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the esteemed Richard Ruiz, our Vice President of Production, along with Cornelia Burleigh, the creative executive, will be steering this exciting project under Searchlight Pictures. They’ll be working closely with the dynamic duo, DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas, who head the production and development team.
Ready or Not not only catapulted the acting career of Weaving, but also boosted the filmmakers to greater professional success. Radio Silence plunged into the studio horror scene, rejuvenating the Scream franchise with 2022’s Scream and the upcoming 2023’s Scream VI. They also dived into the world of vampire ballerinas with Abigail, a film released by Universal earlier this year.
In contemporary films like “Bill & Ted Face the Music,” “Chevalier” produced by Searchlight Pictures, and Damien Chazelle’s tribute to old Hollywood titled “Babylon,” weaving has made an appearance.
Weaving is represented by CAA and 111 Media, while Radio Silence has UTA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners as their representatives.
