Reese Witherspoon Says an Actress Is Not Friends With Her Anymore After She Delivered a Speech That Still “Haunts” Her

Reese Witherspoon is discussing an old spat with another well-known actress, stemming from a speech she delivered previously.

In an interview with People magazine released on Thursday, the star of You’re Cordially Invited confessed that she is still troubled by a speech she delivered for another renowned actress at a prestigious awards event. She declined to disclose the identity of the actress.

This friend of mine, whom I wasn’t particularly close with but was quite serious and formal, asked me to present her with an award. However, unaware that this was a formal ceremony, I assumed it was more like a roast. So, I got up and made fun of her instead,” Witherspoon explained.

Witherspoon expressed that the atmosphere of the event was “distinctly British, refined, and sophisticated,” contrasting her initial expectations.

I couldn’t help but reminisce, ‘Do you remember our shared experience with laser hair removal?’ It’s a moment I’m still a bit sheepish about,” I confessed.

Witherspoon said that since the speech, the actress no longer speaks to her.

She’s no longer my friend, that’s not a joke – we’re not friends anymore,” she stated. “I believe she doesn’t appreciate me anymore. I thought it was amusing, but clearly, I misread the situation. It wasn’t well-received, to say the least. Indeed, without any jest, she no longer communicates with me.

Although Witherspoon didn’t explicitly mention the actress by name, online detectives have successfully identified the conversation she referred to. It appears this dialogue transpired between Witherspoon and Kate Winslet at the BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards in November 2007.
