Reese Witherspoon to Write Debut Novel, Will Team With Harlan Coben for a Collaborative Suspense

As a long-time enthusiast of captivating narratives, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming collaboration between the illustrious Reese Witherspoon and the prolific Harlan Coben. This powerhouse duo is set to weave an intricate web of suspense that promises to leave readers spellbound.

Reese Witherspoon is adding published author to her résumé.

On Wednesday, Ben Sevier, the President and Publisher of Grand Central Publishing, revealed the procurement of a fresh suspense novel penned by the duo of Witherspoon and renowned author and television producer Harlan Coben.

The book is a first-time work by Witherspoon, stemming from her unique concept. Not only has she written and released this novel, but a film adaptation is also being prepared for production.

In a statement, Reese Witherspoon expressed her enthusiasm, “It’s no exaggeration to say that I admire Harlan’s entire collection of works; collaborating with him as a co-author on this thriller is nothing short of a dream come true. Collaborating with Harlan on the creation of captivating characters and intricate plot twists has been an exhilarating experience, one that I can hardly put into words. I’m eager for everyone to delve into the story we’ve been envisioning together.

Coben shared that he’s admired Reese Witherspoon for quite some time now, praising her exceptional skills in storytelling across various media platforms. When they started discussing her idea, it was clear that they were meant to work together. Collaborating with Reese has been a delightful and creatively fulfilling experience, and he’s thrilled about sharing this novel with everyone.

Despite being her novel debut, Witherspoon is no stranger to the literary world. The actress and producer established the media brand, Hello Sunshine, which promises to put women at the center of every story across all platforms, in 2016 and launched the successful Reese’s Book Club. Some of the books selected for the club have gone on to become bestsellers and/or adapted for screen including Daisy Jones & the Six, Little Fires Everywhere and From Scratch.

Reese Witherspoon playfully announced the news on Instagram, saying “I’ve somehow convinced Harlan to collaborate with me on a novel! As a die-hard fan of his work, I never thought it would happen. Either I’m an exceptional persuader or this book idea is simply too intriguing! Could it be that both are true?

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve sealed a deal for North American rights with Cait Hoyt at CAA, along with Lisa Erbach Vance from the Aaron M. Priest Literary Agency, for Witherspoon and Coben. Simultaneously, Century (a division of Penguin Random House UK) will release this in both the U.K. and Commonwealth territories, excluding Canada.
