Release The 'Downey Draft': Apparently There Was A Version Of Deadpool And Wolverine With Tony Stark In It

As a long-time Marvel fan who has witnessed the evolution of this universe over the years, I must say that the latest collaboration between Deadpool and Wolverine has left me utterly spellbound! The movie has been shattering box office records and its cameos have been nothing short of spectacular.

Spoilers ahead for Deadpool & Wolverine.

For fans who have followed the Marvel movies sequentially for years, they’ve witnessed the Marvel Cinematic Universe evolve into a finely tuned production machine. New offerings keep pouring out in cinemas and on Disney+, but few recent productions have matched the extraordinary success of Deadpool & Wolverine. The film was packed with numerous thrilling appearances, and it’s rumored that there was a version of Deadpool 3 featuring Tony Stark. Now, fans are calling for the release of the Downey draft!

The action-packed duo of Deadpool and Wolverine has been shattering box office records, marking the biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe film in quite some time. Fans were ecstatic about its numerous cameos, but it’s been unveiled that Robert Downey Jr. could have reprised his role as Tony Stark. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese disclosed that an initial scene for Happy Hogan was scripted to feature Iron Man himself. Wernick commented, “We do have a Downey draft,” which certainly adds excitement to the mix. However, Reese shared why it didn’t pan out, stating:

Jon handled it admirably. He showed resilience during the uncertain period and later displayed great sportsmanship when the project grew larger. We appreciated the concept of Tony Stark’s involvement, but we also comprehend why it didn’t materialize, considering Downey swiftly took on the role of Dr. Doom shortly after our film premiere at Comic-Con.

Incredibly, I must say that if the already amazing guest appearances in Deadpool 3 weren’t enough, having Robert Downey Jr. reprise his role as Tony Stark, the original superhero, would have been the cherry on top. However, given the recent transformations within the shared universe, it isn’t surprising that this collaboration didn’t materialize.

According to Rhett Reese, it was at San Diego Comic-Con where the news broke that Robert Downey Jr. would no longer suit up as Iron Man but instead take on the role of the antagonist, Doctor Doom, in the upcoming movies “Avengers: Doomsday” and its sequel “Avengers: Secret Wars.” These films will be helmed by the Russo Brothers.
