Renault Reveals New Hot Hatch: the 5 Turbo 3E

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for both virtual and real-life speed demons, I must say that Renault has managed to pique my interest yet again. Having grown up in the era of the original Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia upon seeing the modern interpretation of this iconic vehicle – the Renault 5 Turbo 3E.

It’s been officially announced that the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, initially teased in the final episode of the “Anatomy of a Comeback” documentary series on Amazon Prime Video, will indeed be produced. This series, debuted on December 13, delves into Renault’s revolutionary “Renaulution” process, concluding with an exciting surprise: a glimpse of the electric version of the Renault 5 Turbo 3E.

This new version of the legendary Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 from the 1980s blends classic design with contemporary technology, while retaining its racing roots. The Renault 5 Turbo 3E showcases a livery inspired by motorsports, boasts a lightweight carbon frame, and adopts a rear-wheel drive configuration. With two electric motors positioned in the back wheels, this sporty hatchback generates close to 500 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.5 seconds.

The car boasts a design that blends futuristic elements with hints of its earlier Turbo models, such as incorporating a charging port within the rear air intake. This design choice is reminiscent of its past while embracing modern technology. Nicknamed a “pocket rocket,” the Renault 5 Turbo 3E aspires to deliver an electrifying driving experience and swift acceleration speeds.

To highlight, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E will debut together with unique events in 2025; however, specifics regarding pricing and accessibility are still undisclosed as of now.
